Responsibilities

Working within the Training Department (Blood Collections Learning Academy), this position will instruct students according to the blood collection Standard Operating Procedures. The Blood Collection Learning Instructor will work with the Blood Collection Instructional Designer to ensure course content is compelling, engaging and enhances learning retention. The Blood Collection Learning Instructor is responsible for releasing a competent Blood Collection employee, fully trained to work independently.

    Travels regionally 40% of the time to conduct classroom training sessions for Apheresis collections with Collections employees, both new and seasoned. Adapts training sessions appropriate to the audience (single, group, etc). Regional travel is defined as multi-divisional across States within the NYBCe footprint. The majority of travel to be limited to Northeast or Midwest. Cross coverage may be required in extreme circumstances.
  • Assist in creating annual schedule of training classes throughout the region to support Division goals and need for collections growth.
  • Develops timelines and training plans for each session or activity in concert with local Collections Management and Blood Collection Learning Instructors. Conducts hands-on practical training with individual employees. Monitors progress of trainees within Collections. Provides coaching/mentoring to staff utilized as Mentors/Preceptors.
  • Partners with the Instructional Designer to create, update and prepare training curriculums using all medium of tools, material, and media, to enhance the learning experience.
  • Ensures student employees are fully immersed in the expectation of the Donor Journey and their responsibility to provide the most optimal experience for our donors.
  • Travels regionally (multi-state) to perform classroom training on the apheresis technology, executing competency assessments at the end of the module to formally sign-off an employee in the use of the machine.
  • Oversees "Graduation" ceremonies for student employees who successfully complete the Blood Collection Learning Program.
  • Supports Collections leader in the provision of remedial training to Blood Collection staff as needed. Consults with management for performance improvement plans and provides feedback on progress in a timely manner.
  • Provides oversight for training and competency assessments of Blood Collections employees.
  • Supports Collections during internal and external audits.
  • Acts as liaison to the Enterprise Instructional Designer to ensure course curriculums are current and in alignment with effective Standard Operating Procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Works with Technical Operations and Collections Management to learn, design procedures and implement new software, technologies or procedures into the Blood Collection Standard Operating Procedure and Process.
  • Provides support to Technical Services in Donor Services for daily processes as needed.
  • Prepare various reports.
  • Attends conferences, seminars, as required.
  • Makes recommendations to improve business unit practices and processes.
  • Any related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalency required.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Five years of blood collection experience and/or related healthcare experience required.

Licenses / Certification:

  • Valid Driver's License Required.
  • CPR Teaching Certification (Preferred).

Knowledge:

  • A working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • An in-depth knowledge of phlebotomy and apheresis techniques, equipment, and supplies.
  • Basic knowledge of computer software packages such as Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Skills:

  • Cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • Prepare training materials in a clear manner that is easily understood and effective.
  • Communicate effectively at a variety of levels according to situational requirements.

  • Provide input to solve procedural problems.
  • Interpret and communicate oral and written instructions.
  • Assess training progress through direct observation and other monitoring tools.
  • Guide and provide support to team members.
  • Recognize potential staff to coach and mentor for trainer/preceptor roles.
  • Strong attention to detail in all work processes.
  • Project a positive image of the Blood Bank of Delmarva and communicate in a positive manner to donors, volunteers, and employees and to support team members.
  • Must be able to multi-task proficiently on simultaneous projects.

  • Ability to travel to blood drives to support oversight of Field Training as described

For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $85,000.00p/yr. to $95,000.00p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant's skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
