Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Manufacturing Engineer to be based in Louisville, KY for our Plastic Pipe & Conduit Strategic Business Unit. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this person will be responsible for supporting current manufacturing and facilitating the continuous improvement processes associated with the manufacturing methods and processes in the plant facilities. They will also develop solutions for production problems related to materials, processes, and tooling as well as support new products and programs by developing new processes, designing tooling and machinery, and developing production controls.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of 2 years of Process/Manufacturing Engineering experience in an industrial environment. Experience in PVC extrusion, lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:



  • Improve new and existing manufacturing processes for cost reduction, quality or efficiency. This is achieved by planning workflow, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, equipment layout and materials, soliciting input from operators, equipment suppliers and industry experts.
  • Use strong Lean Manufacturing focus towards optimizing systems, equipment performance and resources, this hands-on role will lead the tactical efforts towards the achievement of the Strategic Plan objectives.
  • Provide engineering support for set-up of new equipment, ensure proper operation of new equipment, and to teach others the proper use of this equipment. Accountable for applying sound economic methods to equipment and space utilization to meet design and quality criteria with the lowest expense and consistent with the facilities financial and non-financial objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of buildings and equipment



What you'll bring:



  • BS in an Engineering discipline and/or a combination of college education and Engineering experience preferred. In the absence of a four-year (4) degree in engineering, a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years' experience is required.
  • 2 years of experience in a Process/Manufacturing Engineering industrial environment with hands-on manufacturing engineering experience preferred. PVC extrusion background strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with general engineering software solutions, data driven processes and system methodologies.
  • Experience in time and project management.
  • Effective communication skills in both written and verbal forms.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and systems.



Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore immersion program
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy
  • Gain an understanding of the team


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Conduct data analysis of scrap, downtime, line rates, and material usage. Prepare charts, and reports to assist data driven decisions to improve results.
  • Facilitate brainstorming sessions and develop action plans. Examples include activities to reduce utilities consumption, cycle times, scrap, downtime, material usage variance, and direct labor
  • Support operations by leading and directing technical activities necessary to solve problems encountered in the facility.
  • Utilize a variety of continuous improvement tools such as: Lean Manufacturing/, Six-Sigma, 5S, Total, Kaizen Events, Advanced Problem-Solving, etc.



Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Develop & maintain process guidelines and training programs for the integration of new products and systems.
  • Lead cost reduction initiatives through materials, product, and process improvements.
  • Lead and support Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Innovation improvements.
  • Continually strive to reduce process variation to ensure consistent product quality and adherence to manufacturing and agency standards.
