Embark on a fulfilling career at LAJ Railway, where joining ourEngineering Departmentmeans contributing to the rail infrastructure. As a member of ourTrack MaintenanceTeam, you'll play a vital role in constructing, inspecting, and repairing tracks and other railroad assets and maintaining our railway corridors.

This is a full-time(40hrs/wk)positionand is subject to on-call, overtime, nights, alternatingshifts, weekends, and holidays.

Residency Requirement: Maintenance of Way employees must reside within their hired district for the duration of employment. Employees are required to:

  • Maintain residency within the hired district or within 50 miles of a designated LAJ depot serving that district.

Trainingfor this position is company-paid on-the-job and classroom. FRA Tier II Qualification

Key responsibilities may include:

Track Maintenanceduties include lifting and carrying track material and assisting in track maintenance.

Truck operation and maintenanceduties include operation of 26K+lbtrucks safely efficiently and ensure proper truck and equipment maintenance(schedule regular service and ensure equipment is in good repair) and record keeping.

Welding, grinding, and cutting railas well as learning, understanding, and following welding procedures. Also maintaining records and timesheets, while taking proper precautions to reduce fire risks.

Daily workis conducted in a safety sensitive environmentwhere the working conditions caninclude diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet),walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Able to work now and in the future without LAJ's assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status)
  • 21years of age or older
  • Ability to report for duty at the designated work location
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions
  • Able toworkthe above shift/hours
  • Ableto meet the above travel requirements
  • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English
  • Able to lift and carry up to 60lbsoccasionally
  • Possess a valid ClassACommercial Driver's License (CDL) withtest endorsements for combination vehicle, air brake, andHAZMAToramable toobtain one within 60 days of employment
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow, and lunar (clearlight)
  • Ability to discriminate and differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) in the work environment.
  • Able to use handsand hand toolsto perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling
  • Occasionallyclimb on/off equipment
  • Able tobend, walk, standand sit for extended time
  • Followsafety policies and procedures; wear required personal protective equipment
  • Maintain residency within the hired district or within 50 miles of a designated LAJ depot serving that district.

Unionmembership is with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees (BMWE) and union dues are required per union agreement.
