Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer with hands on experience to join us in delivering and supporting one-of-a-kind testing systems that provide critical data to serve the Naval Reactors program today and for decades to come! Together, our team designs, delivers, and supports a host of unique, large-scale testing systems that provide the data necessary to advance our naval technology and capabilities.



As a successful candidate, you will:

* Work with a diverse team of engineers, scientists, technicians, project managers, and equipment vendors to deliver innovative thermal and hydraulic testing solutions.

* Perform electrical system and hardware design, evaluation, and selection, and integrate the electrical aspects with the mechanical and fluid systems.

* Select and implement commercial controllers and equipment for use with testing systems to optimize performance and minimize system operator intervention.

* Create schematics for system design to support installation, operation, and maintenance.

* Obtain and maintain lockout/tagout (LOTO) and electrical worker qualifications to support system startup and troubleshooting.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or
  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or
  • Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience supporting testing or production environments
  • Experience with DC Power and power distribution systems.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical test equipment


  • Knowledge of energy transfer principles, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and electrical power systems.
  • Strong understanding of system instrumentation, monitoring, and data acquisition for both thermal and electrical systems.
  • Experience with designing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical infrastructure, particularly in support of operating fluid systems with electro-mechanical devices (valves, heaters, pumps, flowmeters, etc).
  • Familiar with the National Electric Code (NEC), associated standards (NETA, ATS, and MTS), and design criteria.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplined team and deliver complex systems.

Pay Range
$116,700.00 - $182,400.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
