Job Responsibilities:
The RN EPIC EHR Trainer is a hybrid role combining expertise in electronic health records (EHR) training with occasional nursing support. This position is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating training programs for clinical staff on the EPIC EHR system to ensure efficient and compliant use in patient care. During periods of downtime or low training demand, the RN will provide nursing care to support patient needs and contribute to operational efficiency. This role bridges clinical practice and technology, promoting high-quality, evidence-based care through education and hands-on involvement
- Maintain the appropriate curriculum and training material to be used for instruction for clinicians and support staff to enable effective use of the EHR. Includes on-board training to prepare new Providers, basic on-boarding training for all new staff, and updating established clinic staff for scheduled EHR upgrades/releases to ensure optimization of adoption.
- Develop and conduct appropriate level of EHR onboarding training to all clinicians, new hires and established, according to established curriculum.
- Maintain centralized, staff accessible location for EHR training materials, schedules, and resources.
- Conduct needs and skills assessments of end users to determine effectiveness of training, types of supplemental training needed and develop plan to address identified gaps.
- Utilize relevant data from the EHR to offer the necessary support and training to clinicians to improve both clinician efficiency and proficiency.
- Seek assistance from appropriate managers to establish educational goals involving the use and proficiency of the EHR for assigned departments.
- Participate as a member of the Enterprise Solutions Team (EST) to fully understand SSCHC workflows, metrics, etc. to ensure continuous improvement in the proficiency of clinicians.
- Conduct classroom and on-on-one training, administer tests, and develop training regimens related to clinical workflows for newly hired clinicians and ongoing professional development, as indicated.
- Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, competency assessments, and metrics such as user proficiency and error rates; update curricula as needed based on software updates or feedback.
- Assess impacts of release notices and upgrades for relevance to clinical workflows and coordinate with EST to develop communication and training needs for clinical staff.
- Work synergistically with QI Director and other EHR support team members towards improved outcomes.
- Maintain compliance with all nursing standards, infection control protocols, and documentation requirements while integrating EPIC best practices into daily workflows.
- During low training needs or staff shortages, support Nursing Department with triage services, patient education and in-basket management.
- Demonstrate exemplary courtesy, respect, professionalism, communications skills, and teamwork.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of RN associate's degree in nursing.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience with EPIC and at least 3 in a healthcare setting.
- Credentialed Trainer in at least one Epic application, preferred.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
- Must have the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical professionals, and to translate administrative and operating requirements into clear, specific, and actionable curricula.
- Experience with mentoring, guiding, and training in a classroom or one-on-one setting.
- Ability to use written and oral presentation and communication skills to effectively communicate to a diverse audience ranging from unskilled personnel to highly trained and experienced professionals with a wide range of computer skills at all levels.
