Job Summary

Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, the Custodian assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly campus environment. The position performs routine and specialized cleaning of facilities and buildings to ensure spaces remain sanitary and well-maintained. In addition, the Custodian supports campus events and may provide services in areas outside of their regularly assigned zone as needed.

This posting is recruiting for two (2) positions: one assigned to the Pecos Campus and one assigned to the Williams Campus.

Essential Functions

30% - Custodial Services (Interior & Exterior)
Maintains facility cleanliness in accordance with established policies and procedures. Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, and vacuums floors and carpets. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, locker rooms, and equipment. Empties trash and recycling containers. Dusts, polishes, and waxes furniture and fixtures. Cleans and polishes whiteboards and display boards. Assignments may include both internal and external areas of campus facilities.

30% - Public Area Maintenance & Customer Service
Cleans public areas inside and outside of buildings, including sweeping, blowing, and collecting/disposal of litter and debris. Responds promptly to service requests and addresses facility-related concerns from campus users.

20% - Furniture & Equipment Support
Moves furniture and equipment as needed to perform custodial services. Cleans carpets, upholstery, and drapery, and performs floor stripping and waxing.

20% - Equipment & Safety Maintenance
Maintains tools and equipment in clean, safe working condition. Reports deficiencies or safety concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.

10% - Additional Duties
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of formal or informal education or experience which assures the ability to read, write, and speak at a level sufficient for the successful completion of the job duties as described.

Desired Qualifications

1. One (1) to two (2) years of custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance experience in a commercial, educational, healthcare, or industrial environment.

2. Demonstrated ability to safely operate custodial equipment, including floor buffers, auto scrubbers, and carpet extractors, and apply proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures.

3. Experience providing customer service to a diverse population in medium to large facilities.

4. Demonstrated attention to detail in completing assigned tasks, including maintaining awareness of surroundings and working safely in proximity to the campus community.

5. Knowledge of workplace safety procedures, including proper chemical handling and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

6. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, interact courteously with staff and visitors, and promptly report facility issues.

7. Demonstrated understanding of proper cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing procedures for restrooms, offices, common areas, and high-touch surfaces.

8. One (1) year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience within the past two (2) years.

Experience within other community college systems or higher education institutions is valued and may be considered in addition to MCCCD experience. External candidates are encouraged to apply.

Working Hours may vary seasonal and may require flexibility. Operational hours are 1:00pm to 9:30pm. Emergency service requests may extend beyond normal operational hours.

Role will be exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions with a broad range of tempered and non-tempered conditions.

Exposure to noisy environments and chemicals used in Facilities Operations will be required.
