Idaho National Laboratory needs IT Business Analysts who can optimize critical systems supporting nuclear energy research and national security missions by analyzing requirements, identifying process improvements, and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards. You'll collaborate with project managers to develop scope and vision, translate customer requirements into functional specifications, prepare implementation plans for new capabilities, and create process models and diagrams that guide development teams. Your responsibilities include developing value stream mapping, documenting changes for project managers, leading special projects as a change agent, ensuring policies balance compliance with operational efficiency, and supporting benchmarking efforts with other national laboratories. You'll need understanding of IT systems engineering, enterprise business processes, and the ability to bridge technical execution with organizational needs.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, determine, validate, and document requirements and processes for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to IT and Enterprise Architecture standards. Proactively address process improvement efforts and locate areas where automation efforts could improve current processes. Bridge the gap between IT execution and business needs.
  • Provide recommendations for process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with project managers and sponsors to develop project scope and vision and clearly identify project collaborators and main project contributors. Develop and conduct peer reviews of the requirements to ensure that requirement specifications are correctly interpreted.
  • Translate conceptual customer requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to the project team. Translate business requirements to functional and technical requirements.
  • Prepare implementation plans for incorporating new requirements into existing processes and procedures.
  • Use standard templates to write requirements specifications accurately and concisely.
  • Understand existing enterprise technical capabilities and identify alignment and capability gaps.
  • Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to the project team.
  • Develop value stream mapping and contribute to process transformation efforts.
  • Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements through written documentation to project managers.
  • Assume leadership of special projects.
  • Act as a change agent (obtain agreement and lead, prepare, and implement new processes).
  • Ensure policies balance compliance and regulations, while promoting efficient operations.
  • Support benchmarking efforts with other laboratories and entities to verify we are in alignment with best practices.
  • Perform assessments and other assurance tasks to ensure the purchasing system is compliant with stated policies.

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 9 years of relevant experience; or a Master's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 6 years of relevant experience.

  • Related experience in lieu of degree may require a closely related associated degree, certification, license, or specialized training/designation.
  • Requires an understanding of IT system engineering concepts.
  • Must have a broad understanding/application of principles, theories, and concepts in enterprise systems, plus working knowledge of business processes in related fields (e.g., financial accounting, human resources, supply chain, and work management).
  • Must have experience in customer service, along with prior account management, business management/ownership, and demonstrated experience supporting a broad user base.
  • Applicants are subject to the requirements of DOE O 142.3B, Unclassified Foreign National Access Program and require that applicants have U.S. citizenship.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Certifications including ITIL, PMI, IIBA training or certifications, CMMI, Six Sigma.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard, and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an IT Business Analyst to work on our IT Business Analysis team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility with every other Friday off.

  • The pay range for this position is $95,256 - $195,288. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
