The Shared Resources Specialist I - Antibody Technology is responsible for supporting scientific needs of researchers at Fred Hutch using Antibody Technology Shared Resource (AT-SR). This role involves assisting scientific researchers with performing standard laboratory procedures, data collection and analysis for discovery of monoclonal antibodies using mouse hybridoma technology performed for Fred Hutch researchers and external customers. The Specialist I is expected to continue to advance their technical skills and knowledge in antibody discovery and engineering throughout their training. This is an entry level position with substantial room for growth.

Responsibilities

    Research Support:
    • Involves research support that is mainly SOP directed, ensuring the Specialist develops a strong understanding of the fundamental science performed in Antibody Technology.
    • Performs bench work as assigned including tissue homogenization, murine B-cell isolation, hybridoma fusion and culture, flow cytometric screening of hybridoma and supernatants, molecular cloning, plasmid sequencing, mammalian cell transfection and cell culture, antibody production and purification, antibody characterization.
    • Will learn and perform daily responsibilities to ensures that the FC-AT Specialist I develops a strong understanding of the fundamentals of antibody production.
  • Research development:
    • Establish and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with faculty and external users to identify scientific needs.
  • Equipment Oversight:
    • Perform basic equipment operation and maintenance. Specialist I would operate instrumentation such as liquid handling automation, mammalian colony picker, flow cytometer, FPLC, HPLC and SPR instruments.
    • Learn to or coordinate and complete maintenance on some equipment and use relevant software.
    • Potentially review and identify new equipment needs.
    • Assist in supply management.
  • Training and Education:
    • Assist in developing SOPs, training materials, and guidelines for investigator use of equipment.
    • Train ATC team members in equipment operation and assist with experimental setup.
    • May supervise work-study students, interns and lab aids.
  • Administrative tasks:
    • Reporting or delivering results to users.
    • Accurately documenting of laboratory activities.
    • Performing basic billing requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Education: Biology, microbiology, biochemistry or related field; Or
  • Associate degree and 1+ years of experience; Or
  • GED/ High School Diploma and 3+ years of experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques such as Golden-gate, restriction, TOPO and In-fusion cloning, PCR, and Sanger and NGS sequencing.
  • Experience recombinant protein expression in mammalian systems, HEK293 or CHO.
  • Experience in affinity and size exclusion protein purification.
  • Experience in protein characterization such as thermal shift, size exclusion, hydrophobicity, kinetic ligand binding analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new systems and techniques.
  • Ability to learn advanced technical procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented, shared resource lab environment.
  • Experience with MS Office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Sharepoint, Teams, One Drive, etc.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent record keeping and database management.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.77 to $42.39 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
