What to Expect
As Manager, Solar Manufacturing Construction, you will lead the end-to-end construction delivery of Tesla's next-generation solar manufacturing facilities-from groundbreak through Start of Production (SOP). Reporting to executives within Tesla's Infrastructure organization, you will be directly accountable for $250M+ in capital expenditure across multiple simultaneous facility builds, including ingot growth, wafer slicing, and photovoltaic cell production lines. These are highly complex, cleanroom-grade manufacturing environments that demand precision construction execution at speed and scale. This is a senior leadership role requiring someone who can operate at the intersection of construction, manufacturing process integration, and organizational leadership-driving decisions that directly impact Tesla's vertically integrated solar supply chain.
What You'll Do
- Own the full construction lifecycle for solar manufacturing facilities ($250M+ CAPEX portfolio), from the point of site selection and design coordination through construction, commissioning, equipment installation, cleanroom validation, and SOP readiness
- Build and lead a high-performing construction organization of project managers, field superintendents, and project controls staff capable of delivering multiple concurrent facility builds
- Drive integrated project schedules that align civil/structural construction, mechanical/electrical installation, process equipment set, cleanroom buildout, and manufacturing ramp timelines into a single cohesive execution plan
- Manage general contractors, specialty subcontractors, and self-perform resources across all disciplines including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, HVAC, process piping, ultra-high purity (UHP) systems, and cleanroom construction
- Develop and enforce rigorous project controls: cost-loaded baseline schedules, earned value tracking, change management, cash flow forecasting, and variance reporting to executive leadership
- Write detailed and effective bid packages for all major scopes of work, ensuring competitive pricing, clear commercial terms, and best value for Tesla through first-principles cost analysis
- Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, and Equipment teams to ensure construction sequences and methods support equipment installation requirements, cleanroom classifications, and process utility specifications
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of construction management experience with at least 10 years in advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, solar, battery, or similarly complex cleanroom/process facility construction
- Demonstrated accountability for $250M+ capital construction programs with direct P&L ownership
- Deep expertise in cleanroom construction (ISO 5-7 classifications), including HVAC, UHP piping, vibration isolation, and contamination control systems
- Experience managing construction of manufacturing facilities through full lifecycle: groundbreak, shell construction, cleanroom buildout, process equipment installation, commissioning, and SOP
- Proven track record managing both self-perform (direct-hire) construction resources and general contractor / subcontractor execution on the same program
- Strong proficiency in construction project controls: baseline schedule development, earned value management, change control, cost/schedule variance analysis, and cash flow forecasting
