Job Summary

The Research Technician will assist in developing an electronic document archive for Prof. John Preskill. The completed archive will be a repository for Preskill notes and work papers and may be used as reference materials or posted on Prof. Preskill's personal or research websites.

Essential Job Duties
  • Developing the document archive, determining the name/date format for the documents, cataloguing each item based on research, lecture, collaboration meeting, others as identified.
  • Scanning the documents. Reviewing and confirming that the scans are legible and all pages are appropriately captured.
  • Naming the documents, correctly cataloguing them with the agreed-upon format and archive structure.
  • Transfer of the electronic files output by the scanner to the appropriate online location within the document archive structure.
  • Return of the original documents to the correct location.
  • Building the archive structure including design and implementation of a hierarchy such that the documents are clearly identified and searchable. Discussion and refinement of the hierarchy and archive structure with Prof. Preskill.
  • Additional indexing and listing of documents related to this project, as directed.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Proficiency in office software, familiarity with document scanning software.
  • High attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with document archives or cataloging scientific material, notes, resources.
  • Familiarity with Caltech, experience working with members of the faculty or library.

Hiring Range

$19.00 - $25.75 Per Hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
