Position Title: Labor Relations Representative

Reports To:Senior Director of Labor Relations

Schedule: Monday through Friday business hours and as needed

Location: Dania Beach, FL

Position Supervised: None

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

Experience

Prior experience in Labor Relations or Human Resources; working knowledge of union contracts

Languages

English

Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors in a team-based environment. Experience conducting employee investigations. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with employees at all levels. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to exercise sound judgment, including the ability to analyze information, formulate recommendations, and implement decisions. Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, including anticipating issues and concerns whenever possible. Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively with limited supervision and with attention to accuracy, details, and deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities for this position may vary depending upon the individual in the role, but will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain effective and collaborative relationships with union representatives.
  • Ensure the Company continues to work with Union Hiring Halls to ensure timely qualified manpower resource availability to meet ship operations.
  • Continually analyze and interpret crewing management agreements, collective bargaining agreements, and pay practices.
  • Interpret and ensure the application of Union contracts as applied to crewing on Company ships.
  • Participate in Union Contract preparation and negotiation.
  • Advises, counsels, investigates (when necessary), and assists management and employees on general employee relations issues, complaints, and/or grievances, and helps to determine appropriate disciplinary action or provides recommendations for an equitable resolution to reduce legal risk and ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws.
  • Tracks grievances and other relevant union data and generates reports as requested.
  • Conducts investigations into Allegations of misconduct at the direction of the Senior Director of Labor Relations
  • Understand when relevant to file SABs to unlicensed union members (SIU) and file on time according to relevant union contracts.
  • Review union benefit contributions for accuracy and approve workflow (monthly)
  • Provide information and data necessary for contract negotiation and analysis, such as developing wage and benefits survey information.
  • Assists with gathering and analyzing information to ensure that employment actions comply with established policies, operating procedures, human resource laws, and the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Administers organizational policies and the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Analyzes, researches, provides recommendations, and develops new policies or updates existing policies on a variety of employment issues in compliance with evolving and current laws and organizational standards.
  • Supports the effective operation of the performance management process.
  • Continually reviews internal processes to reflect updates, process improvements, and legal/regulatory requirements.
  • Performs all tasks and job functions in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with Operations to provide a respectful work environment for all mariners.
  • Ensure that all necessary personnel and employment records required by the company, employee, government, and/or contractor(s) are maintained in good order.
  • In coordination with Operations and Crewing team, develop and implement such training programs as appropriate and/or required.
  • Travel to the vessels for visits and investigations, and as necessary for business meetings.
  • Perform such other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as needed or directed by the Senior Director of Labor Relations
