Description

About Lipscomb Academy

Join Lipscomb Academy's Christ-centered community as a middle and high school teacher and lead exceptional, college-preparatory learning that is both rigorous and relational. You will design standards-aligned, data-informed lessons; integrate a biblical worldview across disciplines; and mentor students in character and service. In partnership with families and colleagues, you'll maintain an orderly, supportive classroom where every learner is known and challenged. We prepare students for purposeful lives through rigorous academics and spiritual formation-and we seek educators who model Christ-like professionalism and joy in their calling.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a middle school and high school Spanish teacher passionate about the language and culture. You will encourage students to speak and understand Spanish with confidence, while integrating a Christian worldview as they learn more about other cultures.

What You Will Do

  • Teach middle school and high school Spanish courses (level and/or Honors/AP sections based on expertise and need) in both face-to-face and online formats as required.
  • Design interesting lessons that help students read, write, speak, and understand Spanish.
  • Use activities like projects and debates to help students practice Spanish while thinking deeply.
  • Develop and use a variety of assessments to measure student progress in accordance with ACTFL's Pathways to Proficiency framework. Summative assessments should reflect ACTFL's three Performance Descriptors for Language Learners: Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support students in revising their work to improve language proficiency.
  • Adjust your teaching to meet the needs of all students and work with others to support learning.
  • Integrate authentic cultural experiences and resources to deepen students' understanding of the Spanish-speaking world.
  • Collaborate with other Spanish teachers to ensure lessons build on one another and use data to improve teaching.
  • Engage in professional development to stay current with best practices in language instruction.
  • Use technology (like Google Workspace and Schoology) to make learning more interactive and organized.
  • Take part in school life by helping with clubs, events, advisory, or service projects.
  • Show Christ-like character and include Biblical ideas in your lessons.
  • Keep accurate records and communicate clearly with students and families about progress and concerns.

What You Bring

  • As a Christian independent school affiliated with the Churches of Christ, Lipscomb Academy seeks faculty who can support and model the school's mission and values. Candidates should be willing to participate in spiritual life activities and mentor students in faith and character.
  • Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Spanish Education, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Valid Tennessee secondary Spanish or World Languages.
  • Fluency in Spanish, with strong speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
  • Experience helping high school students improve their Spanish skills. Strong classroom management, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to teach language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) with clear examples and rubrics.
  • Valuable prior travel or living experiences in Spanish-speaking countries, which have deepened your understanding of Hispanic cultures and allowed you to practice Spanish with native speakers.
  • A passion for sharing authentic cultural insights and encouraging students to connect with the Spanish-speaking world beyond the classroom.
