| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The
UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care provides a diverse approach to treatment for patients with craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions, including those with multiple or complex oral health problems. The Henson Geriatric and Special Care Clinic provides specialized treatment for patients with closed head injury, epilepsy, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer's disease, and more. The Henson Geriatric and Special Care Clinic delivers general dental services in the care of these patients and provides education for oral health personnel in the management and treatment of elderly and/or medically, physically or developmentally compromised patients. |
| Position Summary |
The Patient Care Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for the Special Care & Geriatric Clinic. The Patient Care Coordinator is to lead all administrative efforts for our patients, both in person and via electronic or telephonic methods. This position will be directly responsible for patient check-in, pre-visit insurance verification, making and confirming patient appointments, collecting payments, running financial close-out and report writing.
This position is the sole administrative support to clinical operations for Special Care & Geriatric patients, and serves as a liaison for excellent patient care, surgical scheduling, and care coordination across a multitude of clinical areas. This position requires a thorough knowledge of coordinating a multi-provider approach, including but not limited to the specialized areas of dentistry, hospital oral medicine, Medicaid, and other federal and state agencies as well as policies and procedures related to dental billing. The position is responsible for creating and maintaining the provider and student schedules, on-call schedules for satellite locations, and ensuring efficient administrative flow during clinic. The position requires detailed knowledge of dental diagnostic coding; dental coding; medical, dental, and secondary insurance policies; dental insurance contracts; and electronic claims processing. This position is responsible for maintaining a relationship with representatives of Medicaid and with insurance carriers with whom the departments are contracted. This position will work closely with patients and families obtaining and explaining all third-party coverage and offering financial counseling for the guarantors. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
| Management Preferences |
Prior experience in ConnectCarolina, Microsoft Office Suite, Epic, Web Travel and PeopleAdmin.
One year of related office experience (related to medical or dental administration, clinical services, insurance billing, or healthcare)
Spanish speaking is preferred. |
