| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Research Data Management Core (
RDMC) is a unit established by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (
OVCR) to develop and implement campus-wide research data management strategies that support compliance with scientific data management and sharing policies issued by federal funding agencies and other critical stakeholders in the scientific enterprise at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (
UNC). |
| Position Summary |
RDMC is seeking a confident, highly organized, self-motivated Research Project Manager to provide comprehensive operational support necessary for the success of
RDMC programs and initiatives.
Reporting to the
RDMC Director, the Research Project Manager will be responsible for organizing personnel and activities for key projects (e.g.,
RDMC data management service and product portfolio, Global Dataverse Community Consortium, sponsored project administration), managing program budgets and progress reports, handling communications and outreach, planning community events, and coordinating engagement with strategic partners. They also play an essential role in
RDMC program planning and implementation, using in-depth applied knowledge of research methods and practices,
UNC Research policies and processes, and national trends in research enterprise operations to propose new initiatives, establish and enforce standard operating procedures, and evaluate the effectiveness of
RDMC services and products. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to consulting or developing course content, curriculum, instructional technique/technology, distance education design, development or implementation, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. |
| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Experience in operations management, project management, or administration in a university research setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Teams, and Excel, and service/project management systems such as
TDX and Jira.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience disseminating information through various multimedia channels including listservs, social media platforms, and websites.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members and campus partners of various backgrounds and professional levels, including university administrators, faculty researchers, students, and other research stakeholders.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively while anticipating and addressing needs before they arise.
- Ability to use independent decision-making, adaptability, and resourcefulness to work in a highly dynamic environment.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling organizational and university data. |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- At least 5 years of experience in operations management, project management, or administration in a university research setting.
- A resourceful problem solver, exercises sound independent judgment, and can effectively manage multiple priorities in a continually evolving environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
- Experience using business software applications such as InfoPorte, PeopleAdmin, RAMSeS, iLab, and
UKG to submit, access, manage, and monitor research program administration and budgeting activities
- In-depth knowledge of university principles, practices, and policies with respect to research program management, responsible conduct of research, and pre-and post-award processes |
