POSITION OVERVIEW: The Packaging Engineer assists in research and development of technological advancements in package design and acts as a source for internal and external customers. Coordinate and perform detailed design and development of concept prototypes or perform package engineering projects independently or assist in a specific portion of a larger or more complex project. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Act as an internal resource to support all packaging related analysis for internal customer needs 2. Assist in Identifying and defining cost reduction and service enhancement opportunities to ensure that customer shipments meet performance, regulatory, and NMFC requirements while reducing freight claims, improving load efficiency, and supporting operational excellence 3. Work closely with operations, dock supervisors, and linehaul teams to understand realworld handling challenges and translate them into engineering solutions 4. Assisting in multiple project assignments and providing performance reporting to ensure deadlines and project objectives are met. 5. Assisting in the completion of major projects involving multi-department involvement and developing solutions that standardize packaging methods and procedures. 6. Performing detailed testing, design, and development of packaging designs to comply with ISTA standards and coordinating testing during the evaluation of new technology. 7. Gathering data and performing analysis for packaging projects that align with company and department objectives, focusing on improving packaging and handling services provided to customers. 8. Conducting detailed evaluation and compliance testing of prototype packaging systems and assisting in reporting test results. 9. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures. 10. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum education * Bachelor's degree in package engineering or another related engineering discipline. Minimum experience * Two (2) years of research and development experience including design and development of prototype packaging. Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities essential to perform job * Familiarity with computer- aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) related techniques including modeling, optimization, and simulation. * High attention to detail and accuracy * Experience in transportation environment * Strong analytical and communication skills.
