Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Health System Director, Clinical Engineering.

In this role, the successful candidate Provide strategic and operational leadership for Clinical Engineering departments and functions across the NYU Langone Health system. Responsible for all clinical engineering activities supporting inpatient and Article 28 outpatient sites at the Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island, and Suffolk campuses. Establish and oversee policies, standard operating procedures, and best practices for medical equipment and clinical technology, including preventive maintenance, repairs, and all operational activities of the department, that align with the health system expectations and support patient care, quality, safety, and efficiency standards. Responsible for performance and quality across the clinical engineering portfolio, including the measurement, monitoring, and continuous improvement of outcomes. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and accreditation requirements. Oversee departmental budget development and financial performance. Accountable to the Vice Presidents for Hospital Operations responsible for Clinical Engineering at each campus.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a system-wide strategy for Clinical Engineering aligned with NYULHs institutional goals.
  • Serve as the key subject matter expert and enterprise resource for all medical equipment and Clinical Engineering matters.
  • Develop and implement standardized workflows, processes, technology solutions, and data governance to drive operational excellence for Clinical Engineering functions.
  • Oversee Clinical Engineering operations across all campuses to ensure safe, effective, and regulatory-compliant management of all medical devices, including onboarding, preventive maintenance, repairs, and equipment retirement.
  • Maintain high standards of equipment performance, uptime, and preventive maintenance compliance in collaboration with departmental, clinical, and operational stakeholders.
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and integration with enterprise platforms (e.g., HER and other systems) to track equipment lifecycle, performance, and utilization.
  • Partner with clinical, operational, and MCIT leadership to plan, support, and optimize the integration of medical equipment and technology into patient care delivery and clinical workflows.
  • Collaborate with Equipment Logistics and Supply Chain to source spare parts, vendor services, and contracts required for the maintenance and repair activities.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to device reliability, repair turnaround, department productivity, safety, and cost containment.
  • Develop and oversee dashboards and analytics to drive data-informed decision making and continuous improvement across the system.
  • Partner with MCIT and other stakeholders to leverage data and analytics to optimize daily operations and resource utilization.
  • Direct the enterprise-wide Medical Equipment Management Plan across all campuses and associated offsite Article 28 facilities and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Lead efforts to ensure medical equipment compliance with the Joint Commission standards as well as Federal, State, and Local regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee patient safety investigations related to medical equipment, including root causes analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of operations managers across multiple campuses, fostering strong communication and alignment.
  • Cultivate a culture of safety, innovation, customer service, excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote staff engagement, professional development, and succession planning within the Clinical Engineering team.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare Administration or related field. 5-7 years of progressive management experience in a hospital setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in in Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare Administration or related field. 8-10 years of progressive management experience in a hospital setting.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $152,240.27 - $262,614.25 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
