Senior Data Engineer / Data Product Developer - 100% Remote

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Senior Data Engineer / Data Product Developer for a Remote position with an Agricultural Cooperative located in Inver Grove Heights, MN. This is a 6+ month contract opportunity.

Pay range: $85 - $92 per hour

In this role, you will support data ingestion, modeling, and analytics-ready data product development for business teams. The work will involve bringing data from source systems into Snowflake, developing SQL-based data models, and creating data objects that support reporting, analytics, compliance, trading, merchandising, energy, and operational business needs.

The ideal candidate has strong SQL modeling experience, hands-on Snowflake exposure, and the ability to work directly with business users to understand their day-to-day workflows, learn the business domain, and translate those needs into reliable data products. This is a collaborative Agile environment, so strong communication, initiative, and comfort working with some ambiguity are important.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and support SQL-based data models and analytics-ready data products within a Snowflake-centered data environment.
• Develop data ingestion workflows to bring source-system data into Snowflake for downstream reporting and analytics.
• Create logical data models, data objects, and curated datasets to support business intelligence, compliance reporting, operational analytics, and business decision-making.
• Work directly with business users and stakeholders to understand day-to-day workflows, gather requirements, clarify data needs, and translate business requests into scalable data solutions.
• Learn business domains and source-system workflows to understand how data is created, used, and consumed by business teams.
• Perform SQL development, data transformation, data validation, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
• Collaborate with BI, analytics, engineering, and business teams to ensure data products meet reporting and analytics needs.
• Participate in Agile delivery processes, including sprint planning, story refinement, collaboration, and ongoing team communication.
• Support data quality, production troubleshooting, issue resolution, and ongoing optimization of data pipelines and models.
• Assist with ingestion and data modeling work across Snowflake, AWS, Microsoft, and Power BI ecosystems.

Required Skills:

• Strong SQL modeling and SQL development experience in a data and analytics environment.
• Experience building data products, curated datasets, data marts, or analytics-ready reporting layers.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms.
• Experience with data ingestion, ETL/ELT, data transformation, and data validation.
• Ability to work directly with business users to gather requirements and understand business workflows.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative Agile team environment.
• Ability to work independently, ask questions, clarify ambiguous requirements, and take initiative.
• Experience supporting reporting, analytics, BI, or data science consumers.
• Familiarity with Microsoft data/reporting platforms and/or Power BI.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• dbt experience.
• Python experience for ingestion or data processing.
• AWS exposure.
• SAP Datasphere experience.
• Commodity trading, hedging, energy, purchase order, sales order, or transactional data experience.
• Power BI experience.
• Data mesh, domain-oriented data products, or modern data product development experience.
• Experience with Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, story pointing, and backlog refinement.
