Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. The Pit Technologies Team is seeking an Equipment Technologist 2/3 (Research Technologist 2/3) to join our PT-3/Assembly organization. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and improving manufacturing and production equipment to ensure maximum uptime, safety, and performance. This is a critical role for supporting production goals, introducing new technologies, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This is an onsite position in Los Alamos, NM with potential 24/7 coverage and shift/weekend schedules, offering a salary range of $96,600-$158,000 for Level 2, or $106,400-$176,000 for Level 3. Responsibilities: Collaborate with a team of engineers and technologists to repair, maintain, and enhance electro-mechanical equipment, including systems related to welding, pressure, and robotics Support and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs, as well as promptly troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions to minimize operational downtime Work closely with cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate programmatic maintenance and conduct corrective maintenance on down equipment Participate in the planning, procurement, and implementation of new equipment within the manufacturing facility, while adapting to evolving technical requirements and consistently meeting safety, security, compliance, and scheduling standards Assist in the preparation and documentation of work authorizations to support operational and project activities Additional Responsibilities for Level 3: Drive continuous improvement of preventive and predictive maintenance programs to enhance equipment reliability and performance, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate and define programmatic maintenance Lead the planning, procurement, and implementation of new equipment within the manufacturing facility, ensuring alignment with operational goals and technical requirements Provide leadership in corrective maintenance and writing documents, as well as mentoring and developing career staff and students to build technical capability within the organization Communicate the status of equipment upgrades, maintenance activities, and machine operability to both management and peers Lead the development and refinement of work authorizing documents to support safe, compliant, and well-documented operations Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; post-graduate coursework desirable 5-8+ years of related experience; equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered Proven participation in designing, planning and executing preventive and predictive maintenance programs and experience maintaining electromechanical and/or pressure systems Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and resolving equipment malfunctions and upgrading and modifying equipment in compliance with safety and operational standards, including Lockout/Tagout Ability to contribute independently in high-intensity environments and express detailed ideas clearly in ways that build understanding, respect, and trust with coworkers representing a variety of technical backgrounds and other organizations Additional Requirements for Level 3: Demonstrated experience with active mentoring, training, and developing career staff and/or students Leadership experience in designing, planning, and executing maintenance plans and in the contribution and development of technical small-to-moderate proposals and business development opportunities Ability to influence organizational, project, and program strategies and directions and lead technical task decision making, providing recommendations that influence the achievement of key programmatic objectives We Are Delivering Scientific Excellence Los Alamos National Laboratory is more than a place to work.
