Description

The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior is seeking a motivated Staff Research Associate to support innovative research focused on human cortical development and the genetic basis of neuropsychiatric disorders. Working closely with the Principal Investigator and postdoctoral fellows, the incumbent will contribute to a variety of molecular, cellular, and imaging-based laboratory studies in a collaborative research environment.

Responsibilities include mammalian neural stem cell and tissue culture, molecular biology techniques, gene expression studies, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, PCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, data collection and analysis, and preparation of experimental materials. The role will also support laboratory operations through inventory management, ordering supplies, maintaining protocols and databases, equipment support, and general laboratory organization. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and an interest in neuroscience or translational biomedical research.

Hourly range: $28.69-$34.21

Qualifications

Required:

  • Previous Lab Experience
  • Knowledge of Standard Laboratory Equipment and Supplies

Preferred:

  • B.S. in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology or similar preferred.
  • Knowledge of tissue culture and sterile technique, knowledge of neural stem cell culture preferred,
  • Knowledge of chemistry to prepare common lab solutions
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for handling chemical and biohazardous waste,
  • Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques, general knowledge of University procedures.
