New Hanover County Public Library seeks a patron-focused, team-oriented Young Adult Associate to provide enhanced library services to youth at the Northeast Library. Essential Duties
- Develops and implements ongoing and special programs for teens
- Promotes relevant resources and materials for youth through physical displays and electronic newsletters
- Provides reader's advisory to teens and stays abreast of publishing trends in young adult literature
- Maintains the Northeast teen space as a welcoming and inclusive environment
- Assists in developing and maintaining the Northeast young adult collection
- Contributes to the collaborative service environment by providing assistance to patrons of all ages at all service points as needed
- Educates patrons in the use of technological devices, software, and equipment to enhance self-sufficiency and access library resources
- Serves as person in charge on nights and weekends as necessary
- Protects each patron's right to privacy and access, adhering to the American Library Association Bill of Rights and Code of Ethics
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Proven interest in working with young people
- Ability to respond appropriately to information-seeking behaviors and diverse learning styles
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently, and exercise judgment in resolving patron issues
- Flexibility and willingness to adjust to a constantly changing work environment
- Willing and able to lift up to 30 pounds; bend, stoop and reach; stand for several hours per day
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of and familiarity with young adult literature
- Bilingual English/Spanish

Must be available during emergency situations. Salary Information: The hiring rangefor this position is $42,050.00 $56,768.00 Salary will be determined based on qualifications. Qualifications

- Associate's Degree in a related field, and two (2) years of related library experience
- Alternatively, individuals may possess training and experience equivalent to the above, as well as demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the essential duties of a Library Associate
