OVERVIEW Veeco is expanding manufacturing capacity across multiple product lines, including Spector IBD, to meet growing demand driven by AI and high-performance computing. As a Project Engineer, you are the primary point of accountability for delivering these complex systems from sales order through configuration, build, test, and shipment. You will own the schedule, coordinate across Planning, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Field Service, and ensure on-time delivery. This is a highly cross-functional, execution-focused role where you lead through influence. You are responsible for keeping projects on track, resolving issues when they arise, and maintaining clear communication with both internal teams and customers. Success in this role requires the ability to manage complexity, navigate competing priorities, and drive delivery when engineering changes, supply chain challenges, and customer expectations intersect. The role is primarily onsite, with occasional travel (up to ~20%) to support collaboration across locations and key phases of delivery. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own end-to-end delivery of multiple system builds across extended build cycles (initial order through configuration, manufacturing, test, and final shipment) ensuring all phases stay aligned to schedule and executed on time.
- Develop and manage integrated project schedules that align engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and quality milestones, proactively identifying dependencies and maintaining clear visibility into progress.
- Identify and resolve risks that threaten delivery timelines, including engineering changes, material availability, and production challenges - escalating early with clear mitigation plans and driving issues through resolution.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers during key delivery phases, providing status updates, managing expectations when schedules shift, and supporting critical readiness and acceptance activities.
- Partner closely with engineering teams to track deliverables and review technical documentation, ensuring design outputs are complete and aligned with production requirements.
- Lead regular reviews of engineering changes (ECO), assessing impact on active builds and ensuring controlled integration into production activities.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to remove blockers, maintain schedule integrity, and ensure systems are built and tested according to plan.
- Provide concise, actionable updates to operations leadership, including schedule performance, risks, and resource constraints.
- Identify opportunities to improve delivery predictability, execution efficiency, and cross-functional coordination, contributing to continuous improvement of project execution practices.
- Ability to travel (up to ~20%) to support collaboration across locations and key phases of delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) or a related technical field - or an equivalent combination of education and manufacturing project management experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing operations, project engineering, or project management - preferably involving complex capital equipment or electromechanical systems.
- Demonstrated experience owning delivery of complex systems or projects from initiation through completion.
- Experience interacting with external customers or stakeholders in a delivery, manufacturing, or technical environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experience managing delivery of complex, multi-component systems in environments where coordination across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain is critical to success.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, where problem-solving and decision-making are required to maintain delivery timelines.
- Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, with the ability to interpret engineering documentation and engage in technical discussions to identify and resolve issues.
- Proficiency with project scheduling tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Smartsheet) and familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) for tracking materials, orders, and production status.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and driving execution while holding stakeholders accountable while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey status, risks, and trade-offs to both internal stakeholders and external customers.
- Ability to assess issues across design, materials, or production and collaborate with the appropriate teams to determine root cause and resolution.
- Comfort working in environments where multiple concurrent projects are active and delivery timelines are tightly interdependent.
- Bilingual proficiency (Japanese) is a plus
- PMP certification or equivalent is valued but not required; demonstrated ability to deliver projects on schedule is prioritized.
