THE POSITION

Join Department of Conservation and Natural Resources as a Lifeguard at Pine Grove Furnace State Park and help create a safe, welcoming place for visitors. This role will let you spend your days outdoors while protecting swimmers and supporting a family-friendly environment. You will take action when needed and help keep the beach area running smoothly. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports visitor safety by monitoring swimming areas, responding to emergencies, and maintaining safe conditions throughout the beach area. You will help to ensure that all park guests can enjoy the water with confidence. As a Lifeguard, you will perform the following duties:

  • Area Monitoring: Patrol swimming areas and observe visitors to prevent accidents and maintain order
  • Rescue Response: Recognize signs of distress and perform lifesaving rescues using approved techniques
  • Emergency Care: Provide first aid and CPR to injured or distressed visitors when needed
  • Rule Enforcement: Ensure compliance with swimming rules and explain guidelines to visitors
  • Safety Inspection: Check equipment and swimming areas to confirm they are safe and in proper condition
  • Documentation Duties: Prepare written reports describing activities, conditions, and incidents

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal full-time employment running from 5/25/2026 through 9/7/2026.
  • Work hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work schedule will vary not to exceed 37.5 hours per week and will include weekends and holidays.
  • Full-time and part-time schedules available.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • All employees must obtain a valid Lifeguard Certification issued by the American Red Cross, YMCA, United States Lifesaving Association, or other authority recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health within 14 days of employment.
  • All employees must obtain valid certifications in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR within 14 days of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
