The Department of Environmental Sciences at Rutgers University - New Brunswick invites applications for a tenured faculty position at the level of Professor in the areas of environmental and industrial microbiology. We seek an individual with a strong record of research in fundamental aspects of environmental microbiology and their application to mining or other industrial activities.
The Department seeks candidates who combine microbiological methods, various omics techniques and bioinformatics, and environmental geochemical approaches including isotope geochemistry, mineralogy and crystal chemistry in laboratory and/or field-based studies of problems at the interface of microbial and chemical processes in the environment. We are particularly interested in scientists whose research addresses mercury-microbe interactions, C1 metabolic pathways, microbial transformations relevant to gold (and other) mining waste, and who are eager to collaborate with faculty from other departments at Rutgers including Civil and Environmental Engineering, Biochemistry and Microbiology, Earth and Planetary Science, and Marine and Coastal Science. The successful candidate will have an international reputation for collaborative research and a proven ability to develop, manage, and sustain a competitive, funded research program, including building and maintaining governmental and industrial research partnerships.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in environmental science, geoscience or a related field and will be expected to teach courses in aqueous geochemistry, industrial microbiology or other areas relevant to their expertise at the undergraduate and graduate level, and to mentor students. We also seek individuals with Academic Program Director experience at the undergraduate or graduate level and an ability to interact with various stakeholders, including public and private sector professionals. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in departmental, school and university service at a level appropriate to the Professor rank.
