Description

The Department of Biomathematicsis seeking a Bioinformatics Programmer to support innovative neuroscience research through advanced computational and data science applications. In this role, the incumbent will apply computational and bioinformatics expertise to develop, implement, and optimize research software, analytical pipelines, and data-driven tools. Responsibilities include managing and analyzing complex datasets, supporting high-performance computing (HPC) environments, advancing algorithm and software development, and evaluating emerging computational technologies. The position requires strong programming and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to translate computational theory into impactful research solutions across diverse scientific applications.

This is a limited role which may convert to career.

Hourly range: $33.96-$69.54

Qualifications

Required:

  • Knowledge of basic and multivariate statistics.
  • Ability to conceptualize desired tables and graphs and basic code as needed.
  • Knowledge of data science processes.
  • Familiarity with 2 programming languages
  • Familiarity with programming terminology and ability to manipulate data accordingly.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, designing, development, modification, debugging and deployment & evaluation of HPC (software and/or hardware), data science or computational science = research software and technologies
  • Proven skills and experience in resolving broad computing / data / CI problems using introductory and / or intermediate principles
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non- technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff; technical, students, faculty and administrators.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines
  • Ability to select and pass on relevant information to supervisor/investigators
