Senior BMS Validation Engineer

Stellantis
United States, Michigan, Auburn Hills
May 28, 2026

The Senior Battery Management System (BMS) Validation Engineer is responsible for developing and executing validation activities to verify the performance, safety, and robustness of BMS software in electrified powertrains.

This role supports the design and execution of validation strategies across multiple environments-including High Voltage HIL, battery test benches, and vehicle platforms-to ensure accurate verification of BMS functions related to battery hardware control (cells, modules, contactors, HV bus) as well as diagnostics and safety behavior.

The engineer will evaluate system and software requirements for testability and completeness, define and execute appropriate test scenarios, and analyze system behavior to identify issues and support root cause investigation.

Working cross-functionally with Battery Systems, Hardware, Controls, Software Development, Diagnostics, and Functional Safety teams, this role contributes to the execution of robust validation campaigns and ensures alignment with Stellantis BMS software specifications and high-voltage system requirements.

The position also supports validation activities related to BMS integration into the vehicle, ensuring reliable operation and compliance across electrified powertrain architectures.

Key Activities:

  • Define and implement BMS software test requirements and validation setups in collaboration with BMS Software Release and Controls teams
  • Develop and execute validation test plans using High Voltage HIL, battery test benches, and vehicle platforms to verify BMS functionality and performance
  • Perform detailed troubleshooting and system-level testing of HV battery systems, including cells, modules, contactors, and HV bus components
  • Analyze test results, identify anomalies, and support root cause investigation for software and system-level issues
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in design and software reviews (e.g., CDR) to ensure validation readiness and coverage
  • Support development and tracking of BMS validation timing plans, ensuring alignment with program milestones and release schedules
  • Partner with Diagnostics engineering to ensure proper validation of BMS diagnostic functions associated with HV components and subsystems
  • Contribute to validation of BMS functional behavior, supporting broader system-level testing across HV battery features
  • Support integration and validation of the BMS at system and vehicle level, ensuring proper interaction with battery hardware and vehicle systems
  • Provide clear and timely communication of validation status, technical issues, and test results to project stakeholders

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Systems, or related technical field from an accredited institution
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive, electrified powertrain, or embedded systems engineering
  • Experience with battery management systems (BMS), electrified powertrains, or high-voltage (HV) systems
  • Hands-on experience with validation and testing of battery systems in hybrid and/or electric vehicles
  • Experience using diagnostic and software tools (e.g., HIL systems, CANalyzer, CANoe, ETAS INCA, or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery systems and fundamentals of battery behavior and control
  • Proven ability to perform technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present test results, technical issues, and validation findings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Systems, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
  • Experience with both BMS software validation and battery hardware interaction (cells, modules, contactors, HV bus)
  • Strong understanding of BMS system functionality, including SoX estimation, thermal management, and HV safety controls
  • Experience working across HIL, battery test bench, and vehicle validation environments
  • Experience participating in cross-functional validation activities with Controls, Diagnostics, Software, and Hardware teams
  • Knowledge of battery system development and integration in hybrid and/or electric vehicles
  • Experience identifying and validating edge cases, failure modes, and fault conditions in HV systems
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills demonstrated in complex validation environments
