Description Emergency Services seeking RN Clinical Coordinator Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) for the SANE Program Strongly prefer relevant RN / SANE clinical experienceand must have completed a NCBON approved sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) training program that meets the International Association of Forensic Nurse educational guidelines. Desire candidate with SANE-A certification, SANE-P certification, and Intimate Partner Violence Examiner course credentials. Summary: The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program Coordinator at UNC Hospitals plays a pivotal role in overseeing the SANE Program. This multifaceted position involves direct patient care, education, investigation, consultation, and leadership. As a key member of a multidisciplinary team, the SANE Program Coordinator contributes significantly to the excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and leadership within Emergency Services.
Responsible for workflow in patient care area. The Clinical Coordinator SANE facilitates compassionate, trauma-informed, culturally competent patient care to victims of violence in the hospital setting. The Clinical Coordinator will plan, implement and evaluate care according to approved policies and procedures. Collaborates with the team to advance the forensic nursing capacity at UNC Health to more broadly serve all victims of violence including; intimate partner violence, strangulation, child maltreatment, human trafficking, elder abuse, and ultimately community violence (gunshot and stab wound victims). Additionally, collaborates not only within the hospital but also health care system and community partners to increase medical forensic services and provide holistic care to victims of violence. This position will supervise clinical staff, make clinical staff schedules and help with training of clinical staff. This position works with other members of the Physician Practice care team to coordinate care to meet patient's needs.
Responsibilities: 1. Collaborates to coordinate care for patients at UNC Hospitals identified as survivors of sexual assault or intimate partner violence, addressing both physical and emotional needs. In partnership with a multidisciplinary team, the coordinator facilitates treatment plans and forensic examinations, ensuring meticulous documentation and preservation of evidence for legal proceedings. The coordinator may be called upon to serve as a forensic nurse, conducting forensic examinations as needed. 2. Education: Acts as a primary resource for SANE education. The coordinator will further act as a resource for patients and families. Will plan and collaborate with program medical director to design educational materials, developing and planning for educational presentations, training on care and treatment for patients, staff, providers, community, and outside agencies. Will be responsible for onboarding, providing ongoing education, and annual competencies for clinical nurses providing services as SANEs. 3. Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI): Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of program objectives and goals. Reviews clinical and administrative processes to identify areas for improvement. Compiles de-identified patient data and program data for quality and performance improvement activities. Develops and monitors reports for monitoring care process. In collaboration with Emergency Services leadership implements changes based on data analysis of performance measures. 4. Program Coordination/Administration: Collaborates with Emergency Services leadership team to develop, implement, and evaluate SANE care protocols, pathways, and order sets. Coordinates multi-disciplinary meetings and facilitate communication between internal and external customers for continuous patient care. Assists in budget development for program and implementation with a consideration to cost containment and efficiency. 5. Human Resources: Assists in recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of nurses to maintain availability of SANE resources 24/7. Assists in annual evaluation of nurses hired solely to participate in SANE program. 6. Outreach: Works collaboratively with program medical director to develop and implement outreach materials and programs for referring community providers. Represents program in community events and meetings. Collaborates with outside agencies to initiative or maintain partnerships to grow the UNC Hospitals SANE program or forensic nursing specialty (e.g. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or Fayetteville State University). 7. Departmental Responsibilities: Will assume on-call availability to act as resource. This may require on-call/call back including nights/weekends.

Other information: Education Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. * Completion of an approved North Carolina SANE program and holding certificates of completion. Licensure/Certification Requirements: * Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. * Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. * Specialty certifications including SANE-A and SANE-P are required. Professional Experience Requirements: * Three (3) years of professional nursing in tertiary care. * One (1) year of management experience in nursing specialty. Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements: * Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures. Ability to document clinical information. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from patients, physicians, family members, and other hospital staff. * Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. * Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
