Position Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to patients and licensed medical practitioners in an ambulatory pediatric primary care setting. This role assists with patient care activities, prepares patients for examinations and procedures, maintains medical records, and supports daily office operations. The CMA is expected to deliver patient-centered care while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with organizational standards and clinical protocols.

Job Responsibilities




  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms, supplies, and medical instruments for patient visits and procedures.



  • Prepare patients for physician examinations and assist with clinical procedures as directed.



  • Obtain and document patient vital signs and medical histories in electronic medical records.



  • Perform EKGs, pulmonary function testing, audiometry, vision screening, urine drug screening, breath alcohol testing, phlebotomy, and other laboratory testing after competency validation.



  • Administer pediatric immunizations in accordance with established clinical guidelines and scope of practice.



  • Assist with minor office procedures and treatments.



  • Perform medication reconciliation and support follow-up on test results.



  • Conduct telephone and in-person patient screening.



  • Schedule appointments, admissions, outpatient procedures, and related patient services.



  • Obtain and enter patient demographic and financial information into electronic practice management systems.



  • Maintain, organize, and file medical records and reports.



  • Support billing and collection activities as needed.



  • Perform inventory management and routine maintenance of clinical and administrative equipment.



  • Provide patient education related to health maintenance and disease prevention.



  • Communicate information to patients as directed by licensed medical practitioners.



  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all organizational competencies and policies.



  • Deliver age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care to pediatric patient populations and caregivers.



  • Utilize computer software and electronic systems to support office operations.



  • Perform rooming duties and support patient flow throughout the clinic.



  • Stand for extended periods and perform light lifting, pushing, and pulling as required.




Job Requirements




  • High School diploma or GED required.



  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.



  • Minimum of 1 year of medical assistant experience required.



  • Previous pediatric experience preferred.



  • Current AHA BLS certification required.



  • Current certification through one of the following required:




    • CMA-NHA



    • CMA-NCCT



    • CMA-AAMA



    • RMA-AMT



    • RMA-NAHP



    • AMCA



    • NCMA





  • Experience administering pediatric immunizations required.



  • Knowledge of vital signs collection, rooming procedures, and patient intake required.



  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism.



  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.



  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced ambulatory care environment.



  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and office computer systems preferred.



  • Ability to stand for up to 6 hours per day.



  • Ability to lift at least 5 pounds and push or pull at least 10 pounds.




Work Experience




  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant required.



  • Previous experience in pediatric primary care preferred.
