Job Summary

In this position, you will work on various projects for municipal and industrial clients in the New England area. You will interact directly with our engineering staff, other consulting firms, contractors, and clients, for construction installations of facilities serving the water and wastewater industries. Project work will include collaborating with design engineers and contractors for the layout and selection of equipment based on specifications, field investigations, field engineering support during construction, and inspections for compliance with all necessary codes.

The Construction Inspection role reviews and documents daily construction activities, ensuring compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and permits. This role conducts site inspections, prepares comprehensive reports, and coordinates with project stakeholders to resolve field issues. This role provides project support by evaluating change orders, payment applications, and maintaining accurate records of work progress and contract modifications. The role applies fully developed skills to a broad range of projects with limited supervision, applying independent judgement to decisions within a designated scope.

Responsibilities



  • Review construction work progress daily.
  • Perform daily site inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, standards, codes, and permits
  • Prepare and review daily reports documenting weather, equipment, manpower, and construction activities, and daily progress photos, as well as monthly progress reports for project stakeholders
  • Maintain inspection documentation records utilizing varied construction information management systems
  • Assist with evaluating and negotiating change orders, invoices, and payment applications which may include final payment including coordination with the Owner. May include independent verification of pay quantities.
  • Maintain records related to the base work, contingency and field changes
  • Perform commissioning, testing, and start-up of process systems/equipment or facilities
  • Prepare effective and accurate record documents and all project, permit, and contract close-out documentation.
  • Review design and bidding documents for completeness, constructability and biddability
  • Proactively identify risks and handle management, mitigation, and solving project problems.
  • Coordinate to resolve issues in the field with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, designers and regulatory agencies, and the effected public.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.


Mentorship



  • May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.


Skills and Competencies



  • Knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations, local and national building codes, and quality standards
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, specifications, and contractual documents
  • Strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills working with multidisciplinary teams, including clients and fellow staff members.
  • Solid knowledge of safety requirements
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills in the implementation of the daily execution of key functions while coordinating with engineering, field management and building trade staff.
  • Ability to walk around a construction site of varying size and topography to perform inspections and ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting critical construction activities


Experience



  • Typically, a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in construction inspection or related field is required.
  • Previous construction experience


Preferred Skills and Experience



  • Experience with Water / Wastewater / Piping / conveyance
  • Experience with CIPP (Cured-In-Place Pipe) lining is preferred


Education



  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent


Preferred Education



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is preferred


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $71,000 - $96,000
Location B: $78,000 - $106,000
Location C: $85,000 - $115,000
