Production Specialist

Basic Function: This role supports manufacturing by being proficient in all production processes, including operating specialized equipment, maintaining accurate production records, and assisting in process improvements to optimize product reliability and efficiency. They are responsible for assembling, testing, and inspecting fiber optic connectors and related components to ensure they meet established performance and quality standards.

Significant Responsibilities:

Assembly & Production

  • Assemble mechanical, electronic, and fiber optic connector components according to work instructions, assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Perform polishing, cleaving, and epoxy curing processes following established procedures.
  • Load and operate the IDC Insertion Machine, solder pot, and other production machinery as directed.
  • Maintain and clean production equipment (e.g., solder pots) according to safety and operating procedures.

Inspection & Quality Control

  • Inspect connectors, cables, and assemblies for cosmetic and functional discrepancies to ensure conformance to standards.
  • Conduct final assembly and testing on cables and connectors to verify product integrity.
  • Evaluate jacks and components by testing and adjusting based on performance data; qualify components per test requirements and develop adjustment methods.

Testing & Measurement

  • Operate Cirrus and Signature PCB test equipment as well as optical performance tools (e.g., interferometers, insertion loss testers, OTDRs).
  • Ensure all products meet established testing requirements and performance specifications.
  • Accurately document results, update production/test databases, and maintain traceability of lot numbers and performance categories.

Process Support

  • Read and interpret Shop Packs, routers, and pick lists to complete assigned production tasks.
  • Support process troubleshooting and improvement activities as directed by engineers or supervisors.
  • Follow safety protocols, ESD procedures, and cleanroom standards to maintain product quality and a safe work environment.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience: Two-year degree in electronics, mechanics, or industrial technology or 3 to 5 years equivalent experience

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:

  • Soldering
  • Set up and operation of test equipment.
  • Identify product components and assemblies.
  • Determine appropriate tests, sampling, measurements, and procedures.
  • Read and understand product design drawings, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Use precision measurement tools and devices such as Network Analyzers, Time Domain Reflectometers, and high voltage testing equipment.

Working Conditions: While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and must be reasonably ambulatory. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. This job requires a sighted individual (i.e., vision corrected to 20/20) for significant reading and computer usage. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. This work also requires an individual with normal hearing (i.e., hearing corrected to normal ranges). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. Hours - Monday - Thursday 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM with some schedule flexibility required; overtime is also available.
