Job Description
The Manager of Experiential Learning will be crucial in fostering collaboration with local employers and supporting workforce development initiatives in Kansas City. By forging partnerships with local businesses and industries, the Manager of Experiential Learning can identify in-demand skills and competencies. This enables them to tailor and coordinate experiential learning opportunities to meet local employers' needs, ensuring that students are equipped with the relevant knowledge and skills sought in the job market, which leads to career success. Job Duties
- Creates and manages work-based learning component materials, programs, and experiences that purposefully maximize learning. Components of the program include support services for curriculum-based learning, opportunities for student reflection, standards and training for individuals monitoring the experience, assessment and evaluation of student and program outcomes, maintaining participation records, and data analysis.
- Responsible for assisting with infrastructure maintenance, including implementation of processes and technology coordination, for university-wide experiential learning opportunities for students at UMKC.
- Coordination and logistics of programs, such as employer site visits, job shadowing, mentoring, mock interviews, and the department's on-campus and off-campus internship programs, etc.
- The role will also orchestrate student performance evaluations with site supervisors and conduct site visits to ensure the safety of UMKC students and compliance with student learning objectives.
- Collaborates with colleagues in the department, colleagues across the university, and with area employers to provide applicable resources for student curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular education.
- Monitor and respond to office email/phone calls from employers, students, faculty, staff, and graduates on experiential learning.
- Coordinate all experiential learning job posting services, including internet research of potential job prospects, outreach to employers to promote services, and communication with employers to finalize listings of opportunities.
- Initiate recruitment of employers for on/off-campus programs, and process/approve employer job postings and registrations for job postings in UMKC's job board
- Meet in person or virtually with employers to develop internships and other experiential learning opportunities for students, including recruitment for participation in on-campus Job Fairs.
- Attend networking events and other area meetings and events to increase the number of employers and professionals participating in on-campus recruiting activities.
- Assists students with career exploration through internship, shadowing experiences, employment, volunteering and other career-related activities about the world of work.
- Support students seeking internships through resume review and mock interviews
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed
- Organize and manage competitive-style employer projects such as hackathons, design competitions, and other experiences that combine students' academic knowledge and skills with real-world applications.

- Strong organizational and strategic planning abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with educational institutions, students, and employers
- Proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously with high attention to detail
- Ability to take initiative to complete projects in a timely fashion
- Ability to navigate multiple technology platforms and to learn new platforms as required
- Knowledge of labor relations, employment, and staffing
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience: Experience in early career talent recruitment, including engagement with college-level students and recent graduates, will be particularly valued. Prior experience in higher education programs, especially those focusing on experiential learning or career development. Experience in partnership development and stakeholder engagement.
- Education: Master's degree in Higher Education, Human Resources, Social Science, or related fields.
- Understanding project management and/or event planning/coordination through work experience.
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $53,976 - $57,240 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
