Day & Zimmermann is seeking a Remote Sr. Director, Estimating, MC for Day & Zimmermann Maintenance and Construction (DZMC) in Charlotte, NC.

The Sr. Director, Estimating, MC will provide enterprise-level leadership, strategic direction, and governance for the Estimating function across multiple business units, diverse markets, delivery models, and complex project portfolios. It is accountable for leading a matrixed, multi-discipline estimating organization responsible for developing competitive, risk-balanced, execution-ready proposals for large-scale EPC, industrial, energy, nuclear, renewables, fossil, maintenance, modification, and capital project work. Partners with executive and cross-functional teams to align estimating practices with business goals, project risk, execution needs, and profitability targets. It also oversees major pursuits, capital projects, EPC contracts, negotiated work, and strategic client opportunities and drives consistent estimating practices while improving accuracy, cost forecasting, change management, and project margin outcomes.

As a Sr. Director, Estimating, MC here is the work you will do:

  • Lead and develop the enterprise estimating organization by providing strategic leadership, technical direction, workforce planning, talent development, succession planning, performance management, and resource allocation for a matrixed estimating function supporting multiple markets, regions, and project delivery models.
  • Direct enterprise estimating strategy and execution for complex, high-value capital projects and proposals by overseeing the development of conceptual through definitive estimates, total installed cost models, indirect costs, productivity assumptions, escalation, contingency, and risk-adjusted pricing to deliver competitive, execution-ready estimates.
  • Partner with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to develop commercially competitive proposals by aligning estimating strategies with project execution plans, contractual requirements, labor productivity, market conditions, resource availability, risk management, and business objectives.
  • Establish and govern enterprise estimating standards and continuous improvement initiatives by developing and maintaining estimating policies, procedures, governance processes, review boards, tools, systems, historical cost databases, benchmarking, analytics, and best practices that improve estimate quality, consistency, productivity, and competitiveness.
  • Lead executive estimate governance and commercial decision-making by facilitating estimate reviews, proposal gate reviews, bid/no-bid evaluations, pricing approvals, commercial strategy discussions, and executive presentations, communicating estimate assumptions, risks, opportunities, contingencies, and financial impacts to senior leadership and clients.
  • Support project execution and organizational learning by partnering with project teams on estimate validation, change management, cost and productivity analysis, project controls integration, claims support, earned value, lessons learned, and post-project benchmarking to continuously improve estimating accuracy and project performance.

This role is for you if you have these skills/ qualifications:

  • Bachelors' Degree in Construction, Construction, Engineering or related field of study or equivalent experience
  • 12+ Years with progressive estimating, project controls, construction, commercial, proposal, or project execution experience in EPC, industrial, energy, power, nuclear, renewables, fossil, refinery, chemical, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience must include 5+ years leading estimating, project controls, proposal, or cross-functional technical/commercial teams and 3+ years supporting executive-level reviews, major pursuits, bid governance, risk reviews, client negotiations, or pricing approvals.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an enterprise estimating function supporting multiple business lines, delivery models, geographic regions, project sizes, and clients. Proven experience leading estimates and proposals for large, complex capital projects and portfolios, including high-value pursuits exceeding $100M and annual portfolios exceeding $500M.
  • Expert knowledge of EPC and industrial estimating methodologies, including conceptual through definitive estimates, FEED estimating, total installed cost development, change order estimating, productivity modeling, contingency development, escalation analysis, and cost modeling. Advanced understanding of estimate classifications, basis of estimate development, estimate maturity, scope definition, indirect costs, labor planning, equipment rates, subcontract pricing, and material pricing.
  • Comprehensive understanding of industrial construction execution, constructability, project controls, and field operations gained through experience in construction management, project management, commissioning/startup, or operations. Experience supporting regulated, high-risk, and quality-sensitive industries such as nuclear, power generation, utilities, oil and gas, chemical, refinery, government, or other critical infrastructure.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial contracting, pricing strategy, risk allocation, bid strategy, contingency development, change management, claims exposure, proposal competitiveness, and margin optimization. Ability to develop commercially sound estimating strategies that balance technical, financial, and operational considerations.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate and present complex estimating assumptions, commercial risks, productivity trends, pricing recommendations, and financial impacts to executive leadership, clients, joint venture partners, governance committees, and other key stakeholders. Skilled at influencing strategic decisions and building credibility across functional and organizational boundaries.

In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $221,200-265,400. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of union fringes).
