This position is expected to start August or September 2026 and continue throughfallterm (endingapproximately December 2026or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships.Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program.Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work40 hoursper week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-timeduring the academic year.

The Tesla Energy Compliance team is looking for a Compliance Test Engineer to support the global deployment of safety, grid interactive, grid support, and micro-grid inverters.

In this role you'll be responsible for safety and grid certifications, ranging from identifying market entry requirements through design consultancy, certification, and permitting.

Location: Fremont, CA

What You'll Do
  • Run test cases on Tesla energy products for grid and safety compliance. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to troubleshoot the EUT and prepare alternative solutions, negotiate testing scope and pass/fail criteria with NRTLs while meeting project timeline and safe work practices
  • Develop test plans based on standards, generate comprehensive test reports and data packages for submission to external parties/NRTLs
  • Setup and troubleshoot test configuration hardware and firmware
  • Collect, analyze, and visualize test data using automation tools/scripts
  • Propose and implement process improvement opportunities to facilitate testing and certification process
  • Create configuration file for each country/utility to meet grid compliance requirements
  • Write Compliance Product Design Requirements (CPDR) summarizing grid and/or safety compliance requirements for design team to achieve compliance
  • Consultant to engineering design teams
  • Research new market entry compliance requirements
  • Track codes, standards and regulatory changes and forward plan
  • Work with NRTLs to achieve product compliance (Plan and manage NRTLs)

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Electronic or related field

  • Experienced in testing of a solar power and/or energy storage systems
  • Experienced in working with product safety standards, grid interactive and grid support standards
  • Strong analytical, reasoning, problem solving, interpersonal and communications skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to navigate/interpret ambiguity of standards and products
  • High voltage/power experience
  • Experience working with Yokogawa, Dewetron or other data acquisition systems, analyzer tools, grid simulators, RLC load banks and knowledge on communication interfaces
  • Familiarity with test automation frameworks and scripting languages (Python, Java, JavaScript, MATLAB etc.)
  • Experience in analyzing electrical schematics, reviewing PCB layouts, draw architectural layouts

    Expected Compensation
    $20.00 - $50.00/hour + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
