POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer, has responsibility for designing and implementing processes that ensure safe and efficient manufacturing of ELSCO products. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer works closely with the Product Design Group and Production Team on manufacturing processes from product inception through shipment. In addition to these job duties, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer applies Lean principles to recognize waste in the engineering and manufacturing realm and implements changes to mitigate or eliminate waste.
Responsibilities for this position include:
- Continuously improves manufacturing processes to ensure ongoing efficiency and productivity improvements.
- Develop specific manufacturing processes and time requirements for both the introduction of new products into manufacturing and/or the improvement of existing manufactured products.
- Creates, reviews, and approves assembly drawings and instructions for production as required.
- Develops written assembly and test documentation for all manufacturing processes.
- Works closely with the management to develop and/or improve workstations and the manufacturing facility layout.
- Works closely with management to facilitate employee training for the implementation of new or revised manufacturing processes.
- Ensures that new or revised manufacturing processes meet all quality control requirements.
- Processes engineering change orders for changes to assemblies and parts, as needed.
- Performs safety reviews of all introductions and changes within operations.
- Writes and implements rework and reprocessing instructions for component, assemblies, and returned good as required.
- Works closely with Design Engineers to determine design for manufacturability, assembly, and service.
- Supports the qualification, calibration, and maintenance of production equipment.
- Specifies, designs, builds, and qualifies equipment and fixturing for assembly, inspection, or testing of materials as required. Specifies, or designs and maintains tools necessary for production.
- Plans and coordinates all maintenance activities for all manufacturing equipment, and machines in a way that mitigates cost and unplanned downtime.
- Participates in the selection of major machine and tool investments on behalf of operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICIATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Background and Skills Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing of Mechanical Engineering
- 5-10 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment outside of graduate coursework
- Experience with 3D CAD and CAM tools
- Understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups
- Proficient in MS Office applications
- Excellent problem-solving and project management skills
- Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact, build/maintain relationships, influence, and garner cooperation throughout the organization, as well as effectively present and respond in group situations
- Additional Background and Skills Preferred:
- Experience in the specification and acquisition of capital equipment
- Experience or exposure to Lean production tools and concepts
- Design and fabrication of jigs and fixtures
- Experience with CNC manufacturing equipment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is an exempt level in-office position with occasional ability to work a hybrid schedule.
- Our business hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
- Ability to hear team members.
- Ability to visually review engineering designs.
- Ability to verbally give directions to team members.
- Repetitive wrist motion is used up to 80% of the time.
- Ability to lift up to 25 to 50 lbs. repetitively
