DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports daily administrative and clerical operations in the Bureau of Waterways Engineering and Wetlands. The role requires accuracy, coordination, and an understanding of bureau procedures to keep essential functions moving.

As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Mail Processing: Manage incoming and outgoing mail, research unfamiliar items, and coordinate with the mailroom for supplies and shipments
  • Document Review: Review electronic submissions for completeness, communicate needs to submitters, and maintain resource accounts
  • Data Entry: Enter correspondence and tracking notes into bureau databases with accuracy and consistency
  • Inquiry Support: Route phone and email inquiries, respond when appropriate, and expand knowledge of permitting processes
  • Record Management: Maintain files, upload digital documents with correct classifications, and support informal review requests
  • Administrative Assistance: Provide backup support for travel, training, purchasing, and clerical coordination tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full time employment
  • Work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,831.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
