This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)
Additional Work Schedule Requirements: Flexible work schedule will be required to work evening and/or weekend community meetings or events to and/or be on call.
This position is not telework eligible.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in health education, human services, or a directly related field; plus, one year of experience in community capacity building, public and/or community health education, or other types of health-related work involving considerable public contact.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid Driver's License (Required at the time of application)
CPR (Required within 60 days)
AED (Required within 60 days)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is considered Emergency Service Personnel to ensure the continuity of essential operations, and will be required to report to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency situation (i.e., weather, transportation, other disaster).
- The appointee to the position will be required to complete the following to the satisfaction of the employer:
- Criminal Background Investigation
- Child Protective Services Registry Check
- Driving Record Check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in public health or related field of study.
- One or more years of experience performing community outreach, and providing health promotion and prevention education to various ethnic communities, non-profit organizations, hard to reach populations, small businesses and faith communities.
- One or more years of experience working with community coalitions and with volunteers.
- One or more years of experience working with a community, state or national council or committee focused on food insecurity, food access, nutrition and/or behavioral health, health care access, and built environment to support active living
- One or more years of experience supporting the design and implementation of a multi-stakeholder community focused strategic plan.
- Experience in supporting effective relationships, engaging new partners and serving as a liaison with multidisciplinary, multisector stakeholders and volunteers throughout the Fairfax County Community.
- Experience in addressing Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) through partnership approaches and community engagement.
- One or more years of experience designing, implementing, and contributing to community-based health initiatives with culturally and age-diverse populations.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups, such as community members, businesses, nonprofits and faith-based groups.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Fairfax County's health and wellbeing priorities through work or volunteer experience with government agencies, health networks, community-based organizations and/or faith-based organizations.
- Experience facilitating virtual and in-person meetings and planning events.
- One or more years of experience working independently.
- Must communicate effectively using verbal, written and electronic means.
- Advanced knowledge of basic Microsoft Office Suite applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Microsoft Teams).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
- Generally, works in an office environment may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting.
- Job is generally sedentary in nature, and requires walking, standing, sitting (for long periods of time), and kneeling, reaching, bending, climbing stairs; may be required to lift or carry up to 25 pounds. occasionally. Uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel.
- Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing.
- Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor; ability to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer and use of touchscreen;
