| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The International Program for Scholarship, Innovation, Training, and Education (INSITE) is an interdisciplinary university hub of teaching, research and service that develops expertise in six world regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. We circulate knowledge about how people see themselves and understand the world around them. Our extensive networks and deep relationships in these regions create opportunities for students, faculty, and other members of the campus community to exchange ideas, and to learn from each other and from visiting experts about different parts of the world. With both disciplinary and interdisciplinary expertise that crosses and transcends borders, INSITE encourages dialogue and understanding about cultures, languages, histories, and peoples based on equal partnership and mutual respect, and further, to help solve the worldwide problems of today and tomorrow. Through our teaching, initiatives, and community engagement across North Carolina and beyond, we prepare the next generation for the careers of the future. INSITE's thematic pillars include but are not limited to: societies and technologies; immigration, mobilities, and belonging; climate, environment, and resources; politics and security; democracy; and health. |
