The EMS Analyst II is an experienced professional that develops and integrates a broad range of solutions regarding the CLECO Energy Management System (EMS) and associated peripheral systems. Assists in coordinating software activities associated with the EMS including application changes, application database (DB) administration, vendor system upgrades, software revisions, and the definition/implementation of new products. Performs all work with a positive impact toward all North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.
Key Responsibilities
Champions a corporate culture that emphasizes transparency, integrity, safety, environmental responsibility, employee development, diversity and inclusion, customer service, and operational excellence. Assists and coordinates role as a technical resource on all software activities including changes at the application or operating system level as well as programming/development of new applications. Interacts with transmission operators, settlements, and power flow analysts in order to best model EMS applications to a strong customer valued solution. Assists internal and external customers to aid in defining and implementing applications for business needs as well as recommending solutions to complex technical problems. Assists in implementation, testing, and documentation plans for new software applications including the EMS, Historical database system, and various applications used to support Operations which may require programming and/or database changes and development. Supports all aspects of software modifications including application changes, vendor software release upgrades, operating system patches and database patch updates while ensuring compliance with NERC CIP Standards and Sarbanes Oxley. Performs security monitoring and incident response of cyber security events for proper determination of being considered a cybersecurity event. Investigates new cyber threats and vulnerabilities with the potential to impact the monitored environment. Actively records system problems, helps establish priority, directs and/or performs work for their resolution while maintaining availability benchmarks. Develops and maintains a broad knowledge of all system applications and subsystems, network topology, programming languages and databases. Researches and keeps up to date with new technology and recommends solutions for business processes including upgrades to the business critical EMS system as well as applications necessary to meet business needs of customers. Completes specialized or moderately complex processes or activities, requiring some interpretation of practices, and an understanding of CIP policies and programs.
Qualifications Required Education, Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math or Electrical Engineering 3-5+ years of related experience Strong business acumen pertaining to the Utility industry Strong knowledge of leading practices for EMS architecture Strong planning and project management skills Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respective and collegial manner Knowledge of cyber security, enterprise networks and processes. Program or support supervisory control, near real-time data acquisition (SCADA), generation control, alarm processing, block load shed, switch order management, trending, power flow analysis, Inter-Control Center Communications Protocol (ICCP)/Distributed Network Protocol (DNP) communications, C / Python coding, display building, and EMS database administration (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, PI, EDNA, real-time EMS database)
