III. The Assistant Dean
III reports to the Assistant Dean I for the office of
MBA Programs at Rutgers Business School to support the school's mission and the needs of our diverse student population.
Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick (

RBS is the second largest school at the university, with more than 10,000 students attending undergraduate and graduate programs on campuses in Newark and New Brunswick. The Assistant Dean is expected to provide reliable and timely academic advising to graduate students at Rutgers Business School (
RBS), to act as the liaison for admissions, to manage and maintain student records, to support scholastic standing reviews, to resolve complex issues regarding graduation requirements, to interact professionally and compassionately with all graduate students, as well as their parents/guardians, and to establish effective working relationships with
MBA Program Directors, Coordinators, and the
RBS departments and other campus partners on issues pertaining to academic policies and student advising.
The Assistant Dean works as an integral part of
RBS graduate education, is expected to participate in university-wide and school-wide duties and functions such as new student orientations and onboarding, commencement, graduation convocation, student engagement, recruitment, and other special programs or events as assigned, and is expected to support a collaborative, team-focused, and positive work environment that is student-centered and passionate about student success.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Provide reliable, general academic advising to RBS graduate students including graduate program requirements, and students on academic probation.
- Implement effective approaches to improve student retention through proactive advising, lectures, workshops, and other campaigns.
- Perform transcript reviews to detect and address anomalies in the areas including but not limited to transfer credits, reclassifications, and E-credits.
- Verify and assess student records for scholastic standing reviews.
- Coordinate with the stakeholders on student appeals.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's degree with a minimum of three years of administrative or student advising in an academic setting, or a combination of a Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in college-level academic advising, student services or a closely related field, preferably in a large university setting.
- Experience assessing learning outcomes, student programming, and retention and outreach efforts.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records; and experience working with domestic and international students with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism.
- A dynamic and engaging personality, excellent communication skills, personal flexibility, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines, and experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a team environment.
- This position requires understanding of challenges that current or prospective students in Business or a related field may face in both academic and non-academic settings at a higher education institution.
