What to Expect

Support Tesla's development teams and contract manufacturing partners in the sourcing and procurement of custom systems, equipment or components. These could include specific parts related to one of Tesla's automobiles (Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck, Cybercab), Tesla Energy, Solar, Batteries and/or any other components and systems intrinsic to the successful running of the organization. Source parts and components utilizing extensive technical expertise. Ensure the effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel necessary to manufacture quality products. Plan and modify product configurations to meet Tesla's needs.


What You'll Do
  • Act as a liaison with engineering in releasing new products, collaborate in design reviews, change control meetings, and other technical discussions to assess equipment needs and to determine system requirements
  • Research and identify potential suppliers for products or services. Respond to proposals submitted by suppliers and outline requests for information
  • Qualify suppliers, communicate product specifications and assess the ability to meet engineering and quality requirements. Ensure all commercial terms are agreed and documented in purchase contracts
  • Create purchasing contracts for products or services. Visit supplier sites to review components, product pricing, availability, and materials advantages. Recommend improved materials or machinery to stakeholders, documenting how such changes will lower costs or increase production efficiency. Provide information needed for the development of custom-made machinery
  • Address all areas of category management including category business plans, market conditions, technology roadmaps, cost models, and sourcing strategies
  • Monitor global industry trends, track technology roadmaps, and actively partner with Engineering Design teams to identify/mitigate supply and demand challenges
  • Communicate key supply, cost, and/or quality issues with management teams. Develop corrective action plans to mitigate identified risks

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering or Logistics or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, cost analysis, contract negotiation, resolution Management, procurement, and value stream mapping
  • Experience in supply chain management, or commodity management associated to thermal, mechanical systems, or electrical engineering concepts
  • Experience in generating bottom-up should-cost models based on the understanding of manufacturing process
  • Technical & commercial understanding of tooling and manufacturing processes of systems and component
  • Requires domestic travel up to 10% and international travel up to 10%, to visit supplier manufacturing sites and conduct supplier negotiations
  • Excellent negotiator

    Expected Compensation
    $104,000 - $192,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
