Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit's Commercial Business Units ("Spirit Commercial"). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing's three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.


Responsibilities

Location: Wichita, KS

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conducting heat treatment processes on metals and alloys to alter their physical and mechanical properties
  • Continuously monitor the heat treatment processes to ensure they meet specified job requirements and safety regulations.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain heat-treating equipment including:
    • Furnaces
    • Quenching systems
  • Perform heat treatment processes such as:
    • Annealing
    • Hardening
    • Tempering
  • Examine finished products for defects and ensure they conform to specifications, conducting quality control tests, as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of processes and results.
  • Knowledge of the Nadcap requirements
  • Ability to interact with auditors and demonstrate understanding of specifications and have the ability to execute work instructions.
  • Assist in developing and implementing heat treatment procedures and techniques to improve efficiency and product quality.
  • Understand heat treatment principles and metallurgy for altering material properties effectively.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Utilize strong attention to detail to ensure processes are followed accurately and products meet quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise during the heat treatment process and implement effective solutions.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and specifications (e.g., BAC standards).
  • Comfortable working with technical documentation such as product tech sheets and process guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely
  • Effective communication, problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, climb, stoop, and stand for extended periods
  • Endure exposure to heat, dust, noise, humidity, and fumes
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours (2nd shift).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have a clear understanding of heat treatment principles and metallurgy
  • Ability to set up, operate, and maintain heat-treating equipment, as well as read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Certification or a degree in a related field.

Summary Pay Range: $24.81 - $41.27
