Job Description

Working under direct supervision, level one conditioners operate hand grinding tools to shape forged bars, open die preforms, or closed die forgings and remove defects. They will also possess a basic understanding of the different types of grinding tools and their setup and applications Typically, 0-2 years of experience.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
  • Inspect forging for defects and marks them.
  • Distinguish material alloy types.
  • Operate hand grinding tools and observes operation for removal of defects or tool malfunction. Changes wheels and parts as trained.
  • Conduct dye penetrant checks to ensure defect removal.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, laps, folds, tears, rust, or scale from part.
  • Maintains part identification.
  • Assists in sand blasting as required.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to read a limited number of two-three syllable words, to recognize similarities and differences between words, and between a series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, and smell.
  • Ability to walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or balance.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

Experience & Education

  • Years of Experience (Typically, 0-1 Years)
  • High school/GED preferred but not required; or up to one-year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $19.00 to $23.00 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. Employees will receive 40 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
