THE POSITION

Build a career that supports safe travel across Pennsylvania as a Sign Technician 1 with the Department of Transportation. This role gives you hands-on experience creating the signs that keep drivers informed and roadways secure. You will learn specialized techniques and work with equipment that brings each sign from design to completion. Join a skilled team that takes pride in producing clear, reliable roadway signs.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the production of traffic signs by assisting with manufacturing tasks, equipment setup, and shop organization. It ensures that sign orders are created accurately and safely for use across Pennsylvania roadways. As a Sign Technician 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Sign Manufacturing: Assist with producing traffic signs under guidance from supervisors and lead technicians
  • Equipment Operation: Set up and operate silk screening machines, cutting tools, drying equipment, and related shop machinery
  • Order Accuracy: Check sign orders, mix paint, apply coatings, and keep production equipment clean
  • Layout Application: Apply letters, numbers, arrows, and figures to sign blanks according to detailed prints and instructions
  • Inventory Support: Help organize shop inventory and pull sign orders for counties
  • Truck Loading: Load and unload trucks and operate forklift equipment as needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in the operation of equipment used in producing or manufacturing signs; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
