Job Description
General Purpose of Job: Responsible for overseeing the operations of multiple acute care pharmacies within the region (UMH Sparrow Lansing, UMH West, four community hospitals, and others if need needed due to future acquisitions). Plan, organize, direct and lead the overall operations of pharmacy services. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Team members may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership for regional pharmacy operations across hospitals, and affiliates, ensuring alignment with system-wide strategic, clinical, operational, and financial goals.
- Serve as the primary executive liaison for region pharmacy services, maintaining strategic relationships and conducting business reviews with key stakeholders and partners.
- Partner with regional and system leadership to develop and execute strategies that advance pharmacy services, integrated care delivery, patient safety, growth, and operational excellence.
- Direct pharmacy operations to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality medication management, including prescribing, dispensing, administration, monitoring, and clinical pharmacy services.
- Establish, implement, and sustain standardized operational processes, clinical practice standards, and service models across the region.
- Lead financial stewardship for pharmacy services, including budget development, expense management, revenue optimization, productivity, capital planning, inventory management, and value-based initiatives.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, margin performance, and service expansion across the health system.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, accreditation, and regulatory requirements, including responsibilities related to controlled substance oversight and regulatory readiness.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary leaders to advance clinical pharmacy programs, formulary management, medication-use policy, and system-wide quality and safety initiatives.
- Provide leadership for workforce development, including recruitment, retention, succession planning, residency and technician training programs, competency management, and leadership development.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, safety, and continuous improvement across regional pharmacy teams.
- Lead facility planning, construction projects, technology investments, and operational enhancements that strengthen pharmacy capabilities and support future growth.
- Represent region pharmacy services on executive committees, governance councils, and cross-functional initiatives, ensuring pharmacy's strategic contribution to organizational objectives.
- Utilize data and performance metrics to drive decision-making, manage change, and scale successful initiatives across the health system.
- Maintain effective partnerships with physicians, nursing, operational leaders, external stakeholders, and affiliate organizations to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate pharmacy leadership, pharmacists, technicians, and support personnel, including performance management, staffing oversight, and employee relations.
- Prepare and present operational, financial, quality, and regulatory reports as required.
- Support pharmacy student and resident engagement within the health system
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational and departmental objectives.

Job Requirements
| General Requirements |
* Maintains Unrestricted, Valid State of Michigan Pharmacy license in good standing * Maintains Valid State of Michigan Controlled Substance license in good standing |
| Work Experience |
* Minimum of 10 years pharmacy leadership experience in a health care system. |
| Education |
* Bachelor or Doctor of Pharmacy degree required. * Residency (or equivalent experience) is preferred. * Advanced business degree (e.g., MBA, MHA, MS) or candidacy to earn the degree (must be completed within 3 years) required. |
| Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services. * Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology. * Leadership, administrative, human resource, and managerial skills. * Demonstrated ability to effectively participate on interdisciplinary teams and committees. * Business acumen including profit/loss understanding, contract negotiations, and GPO function. * Effective verbal and written communication skills. * Knowledge of pathophysiology, interpretation of diagnostic criteria, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics. * Problem solving ability and analytical thinking. * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job. * Experience using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and pharmacy information systems. |
