THE POSITION

Are you motivated to support safe and positive reentry experiences in a community-based setting? The Corrections Community Center Monitor at the Department of Corrections plays an important role at the Pittsburgh Community Corrections Center (CCC), maintaining safety and guiding reentrants as they work toward successful reintegration. This position allows you to work closely with individuals while ensuring the center runs smoothly and securely. Join a team committed to structure, support, and strong communication.




DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on maintaining safety, structure, and accountability for female reentrants within the Pittsburgh CCC. It involves monitoring activity, conducting searches, managing records, and supporting daily operations to ensure a secure environment. As a Corrections Community Center Monitor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Safety Monitoring: Observe reentrant behavior through direct interaction and closed-circuit television to support safety and security
  • Search Procedures: Conduct scheduled and unscheduled searches of reentrants, property, and living areas for contraband
  • Record Keeping: Maintain logs, inventories, and sign-in registers to support accurate documentation of center activity
  • Orientation Support: Explain center rules, assign rooms, and provide information during new reentrant orientation
  • Movement Control: Manage movement of reentrants and visitors within the center to maintain order
  • Medication Oversight: Inventory and maintain reentrant prescription medications and security-related supplies

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Community Corrections Centers are staffed by three work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,999.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Requirements:

  • You must be willing and able to work in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
  • This position requires shift work. You must be willing and able to work different shifts or irregular scheduled hours.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Two (2) years of experience performing public safety or security work. (Examples of qualifying experience include but are not limited to public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations, and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile, or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience)
  • One (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals. (Examples of qualifying work experience include but are not limited to performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the military)
