Wieland is hiring a Machinist. The Machinist will be responsible for cutting samples for laboratory use and operating a variety of machining equipment to support production and testing activities. The role requires safe operation of machines, material handling, and use of lifting equipment when loads exceed manual handling limits.

This role is located in Montpelier, OH and will be fully on-site.

Starting Pay: $37.72

Schedule: 2nd Shift 3:00 PM-11:00 PM

Pay Schedule: Weekly



Responsibilities

Role Title Responsibilities:

    Sample Cutting: Use a lathe to cut samples to the required size for laboratory use. Sample weights range from ounces up to approximately 20 pounds. This work is performed approximately one month per quarter
  • Machine Operation: Operate various machines on a constant basis using both manual and CNC controls. Experience or knowledge of Prototrak and Mazak smooth G Control is preferred
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, and overhead cranes in accordance with established work practices
  • Material Handling: Lift and carry materials ranging from ounces up to 60 pounds to load machines. Use an overhead crane for loads over 60 pounds
  • Work Area Safety: maintain awareness of plant conditions, including concrete flooring, areas that may be wet or slippers, and steps required to access certain work areas.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Wear required safety equipment, including steel-toe metatarsal shoes, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and gloves
  • All other duties assigned

Role Title Qualifications:

  • Machining Skills: Ability to safely operate lathes, mills, surface grinders, drill presses, and related machining equipment. Must be able to properly set up, adjust, and fixture parts and material to produce quality one-off emergency repair components
  • Read Blueprints: Interpret technical drawings, CAD/CAM files, and schematics to determine correct part dimensions and tolerancing requirements
  • Equipment Controls: Ability to operate machinery using hand and foot controls and to work safely around waist-level production equipment
  • Material Handling: Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull materials within the physical requirements of the role and to use an overhead crane when required
  • Safety Awareness: Ability to follow required safety practices and consistently use required personal protective equipment
  • Sensory Requirements: Ability to see, hear, and speak as required to safely perform the essential functions of the role
  • Strong aptitude for problem solving and teamwork
  • Methodical, organized, and precise
  • Proactive in proposing solutions and communicating with good verbal skills
  • Demonstrate good attendance and punctualityPhysical Demands:
    • Standing and Walking: Standing is constant and walking is frequent while performing sample cutting and machine-operation tasks
    • Lifting and Carrying: Floor-to-waist lifting may exceed 20 pounds during sample cutting and may exceed 60 pounds during machine operation. Carrying occurs occasionally
    • Upper Body Activity: Frequent reaching and handling are required. Fine manipulation and repetitive motion occur occasionally; forceful gripping occurs infrequently
    • Postural Activity: Occasional neck movement, back bending/flexing, extension and twisting, and occasional stair or ladder climbing may be required. Side bending and pushing/pulling occur infrequently
    • Other Physical Requirements: Sitting, overhead activity, forceful pinching, squatting, kneeling, and balancing are negligible for the essential tasks described in the job analysis
