Location: 1 Lake Street, New Britain, CT Float Position: Covering locations from Enfield, CT to Waterbury, CT Duration: 3 months, with potential for extension/conversion Shift: 1st Shift, 6:00 AM-6:00 PM, Monday-Friday; rotating Saturdays approximately every 3rd or 4th Saturday Travel: Required between assigned PSC/IOP locations from Enfield, CT to Waterbury, CT Interview: Video Conference with Hiring Manager Position Summary We are seeking a Phlebotomist II to provide coverage across Patient Service Center (PSC) and outpatient/IOP locations within the assigned area. The ideal candidate will have strong venipuncture and blood-drawing skills and be comfortable working independently, as most locations may require the phlebotomist to work alone. The position involves performing blood draws, collecting and processing specimens, verifying physician orders and requisitions, labeling and preparing specimens for transport, maintaining documentation, and completing routine laboratory duties. The Hiring Manager will consider candidates with less than 2 years of experience if they demonstrate strong drawing skills and are otherwise a good fit. Key Responsibilities Perform venipunctures and collect blood specimens accurately and efficiently. Perform specimen collection using straight needles and butterfly needles. Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture/specimen collection process to patients. Collect and store specimens according to established laboratory procedures. Verify physician orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Accurately label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Verify requisitions and computer-generated labels to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport while maintaining required temperature and specimen integrity. Update and verify patient information. Record maintenance data and complete required documentation. Perform equipment decontamination and follow established safety procedures. Follow OSHA, DEP, and laboratory safety regulations. Answer telephone calls and assist with laboratory-related inquiries. Attend required annual and departmental training. Support troubleshooting, workflow recommendations, and other assigned phlebotomy duties. Provide coverage across PSC and IOP locations based on business needs. Work independently with little to no supervision at assigned locations. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Minimum 6 months of hands-on venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory, hospital, PSC, or similar healthcare environment. Strong blood-drawing/venipuncture skills. Ability to perform venipuncture using both straight and butterfly needles. Ability to work independently, including at locations where the employee may work alone. Valid phlebotomy certification where required by the state. Strong attention to detail and specimen-labeling accuracy. Ability to follow physician orders, laboratory procedures, and specimen-handling protocols. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Strong patient/customer service skills. Ability and willingness to float between assigned locations from Enfield, CT to Waterbury, CT. Ability to complete a color vision screening. Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of phlebotomy experience. Pediatric phlebotomy experience. Experience working in a Patient Service Center (PSC) or outpatient/IOP setting. Experience working independently at a small or standalone location. Strong experience with venipuncture and specimen collection. Excellent patient/customer service and communication skills. Previous experience with specimen processing and preparation for transport. Note: Candidates with less than 2 years of experience may be considered if they have strong drawing skills and are otherwise a good fit. Training Required departmental and annual training will be provided as applicable. Candidates must be comfortable learning and following location-specific laboratory procedures and protocols. Work Environment 100% onsite. Float position covering PSC and IOP locations from Enfield, CT to Waterbury, CT. Most locations may require the employee to work alone. Strong drawing skills are important due to the independent nature of many assignments. Primarily a patient-facing healthcare/laboratory environment.
