Job Details
Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Food Service Sanitation Assistant I to support the daily sanitation and ware washing operations within our Food and Nutrition Services department. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment through efficient operation of dishwashing equipment, pot washing, waste removal, and adherence to infection prevention and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities Ware Washing & Sanitation
  • Operate and maintain dishwashing machines and ware washing equipment according to established procedures.
  • Monitor and record dish machine temperatures to ensure compliance with sanitation standards.
  • Clean and sanitize pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment using approved cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
  • Test and monitor sanitizer pH levels in pot washing areas.
  • Properly store clean pots, pans, and utensils.
Cleaning & Safety
  • Follow established sanitation procedures, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Remove trash promptly, use can liners appropriately and dispose of cardboard and recyclables in designated areas.
  • Comply with all departmental safety procedures, health regulations, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and protective clothing, as required.
  • Report unsafe conditions, hazards, or safety concerns immediately to supervisors.
Customer Service & Teamwork
  • Demonstrate organizational core values through respectful and compassionate interactions with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, physicians, and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with Food and Nutrition Services team members to support departmental operations.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Current high school students may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of food service sanitation practices preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, stooping, and climbing.
  • Must be able to perform duties requiring manual dexterity and physical stamina.
  • Ability to meet organizational health and physical examination requirements.
Work Environment
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, sanitation products, and food service equipment.
  • Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, including dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Potential exposure to infectious materials found on returned patient trays.
  • Frequent work around commercial kitchen equipment and moving machinery.

This position has a starting rate of $17.80 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.90 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.93 per hour. This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
