The Utilities & Central Energy (UCE) group specializes in large central plant work, particularly for district energy serving cities, universities, hospitals, and manufacturing campuses. Our expertise covers both energy production and distribution. We have expertise in sustainable energy production, simple and combined cycle, combined heat and power, and medium voltage power. Our clients look for us to lead large complex projects from concept to completion, including startup, check-out, and commissioning.

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Electrical Engineer (level IV) plays a key role in the successful execution of projects from start to finish. This individual will provide technical and engineering excellence, as well as successful delivery of work to our customers. The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and managed. The successful candidate will also contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, communicating clearly to all stakeholders, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment. This person will also actively support the business development process, through the writing of proposals and meeting with prospective and current customers.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Designs and supports power distribution systems (primary requirement), including sizing motor feeders and starters.
  • Designs mediumvoltage and 480volt power systems, including generation and distribution, for industrial, utility, and building applications.
  • Designs building power and lighting systems, including special systems such as ground fault protection, lightning protection, emergency generators, UPS, DC systems, motor control centers, and power factor correction.
  • Performs power system studies, including load flow, shortcircuit, arcflash (arc fault hazard analysis), protective device coordination, voltage drop, and harmonics studies, using SKM PTW.
  • Prepares engineering documents and equipment specifications to meet contracted scope of work and applicable codes and standards, ensuring proper application of Electrical Engineering principles.
  • Reviews and approves contractor and vendor submittals, including final equipment selections.
  • Creates project plans and schedules for execution of work.
  • Develops labor and cost estimates for assigned scope of work and is accountable for maintaining scope and budget compliance.
  • Coordinates work with other departments, disciplines, project team members, subcontractors, and contractors.
  • Provides construction observation and inspection services, field support, and startup and commissioning assistance for electrical systems and equipment.
  • Provides technical and engineering support, guidance, and work direction to other departments, disciplines, and subcontractors, as assigned.
  • May serve as project manager for complete projects, when assigned.
  • Supports the business development process through proposal input, customer meetings, and interviews.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or similar related field.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of Electrical Engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineering registration or willingness to pursue this designation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the design of electrical utility generation and distribution systems.
  • Proven project experience and/or working knowledge of Process, Instrumentation, and Controls.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Electrical, Mechanical, Architectural, Civil and Structural Engineering construction practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, NESC, ANSI/IEEE, etc.).
  • Proven ability to build strong client relationships and establish credibility with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to present complex information to diverse audiences, synthesize ideas into actionable recommendations, and positively influence outcomes.
  • Strong planning, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Expert knowledge of technology and the application of technology in business.
  • Travel: May include up to 25% domestic travel.

Preferred

  • Strong electrical design expertise across various industries, including infrastructure projects and/or plant operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory or people-management experience.

Working Conditions

  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites.

Salary Range: $125,000 - $155,000 annually. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications, experience, work location, and education. This position is eligible for an annual bonus.
