The UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government - Who We Are As a Public Service and Outreach unit at the University of Georgia, the
UGA Institute of Government contributes directly to the university's overarching public service mission of improving people's lives by helping to create jobs and prosperity, developing leaders, and addressing critical issues. | Position Summary |
The Fiscal and Economic Analyst provides data and analytical support to the Institute of Government's Workforce and Economic Development Division. The Fiscal and Economic Analyst primarily supports the unit's economists while also collaborating with demographers, geographers, and workforce and economic development professionals. The Analyst locates, acquires, and organizes public and private datasets for research conducted for local and state government decision-making, tax expenditure evaluation, fiscal analysis, and other public-sector projects. The Analyst works with economic, education, demographic, and labor market data to understand and communicate trends that will help legislators, government leaders, economic development professionals, education leaders, and other community stakeholders make data informed decisions. The position writes code for statistical and econometric modeling, forecasting, projections, and statistical inference. The Analyst may also take the lead in research and technical assistance projects based on their available time, skills, and experience. |

- Knowledge of quantitative research methods, data management, and statistical analysis.
- Skill in collecting, managing, cleaning, and analyzing data using R, Python, Julia, or similar statistical software.

- Knowledge of economic, demographic, workforce, and labor market data and analytical techniques.

Manage ongoing applied research projects including developing project plans, conducting research for projects, collecting, analyzing, and managing data and data processes, coordinating production of final deliverables, facilitating meetings, overseeing the efforts and contributions of other personnel, and other project management duties. Write and edit code using a statistical computing application (e.g., R, Julia, Python) following programming best practices. Update and maintain the division's existing economic products. Typical products include final project reports, executive summaries, meeting notes, and presentations. |

Analyze the economic and fiscal impact of tax policy as requested by the Governor's Office, Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts, or the Georgia General Assembly. Determine appropriate statistical and quantitative procedures to be used in analysis. Interpret results of analysis and effectively communicate the impact in writing. |
