Job Summary

Summary
Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership, the Registered Pharmacy Technician performs a broad range of technical and operational duties that support the safe, timely, and efficient distribution of medications and delivery of pharmacy services in accordance with established policies, procedures, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities may include preparing, packaging, labeling, and distributing unit-dose and stock medications; assisting with outpatient prescription processing; staging and delivering medications and supplies to patient care areas; maintaining medication inventory through restocking, rotation, and monitoring of storage conditions; and completing required documentation and records accurately.

The technician utilizes area-specific technology and equipment, including automation, robotics, dispensing systems, and pharmacy information systems, to support established workflows, troubleshoot routine issues, and maintain medication integrity and security. This includes delivering controlled substances to automated dispensing machines in accordance with applicable policies and regulations. The technician demonstrates professionalism in all interactions and communicates clearly with patients and caregivers, as appropriate, to obtain needed information and/or triage routine inquiries to the pharmacist.

Essential Functions

Prepares, fills, labels, repackages, and delivers medications and supplies accurately for pharmacist verification.
Replenishes and audits medication storage areas and automated dispensing cabinets, and processes returns, recalls, and expired products.
Delivers controlled substances to automated dispensing machines in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
Applies pharmacy knowledge, calculations, drug information, and proper medication handling and storage practices to support safe and accurate medication distribution.
Operates pharmacy robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems to support efficient department operations.
Communicates professionally with patients, caregivers, pharmacists, and other team members to gather information and triage routine inquiries.
Follows established policies and pharmacist direction, supports routine pharmacy operations, and performs other assigned duties.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials

Pharmacy Technician License - Massachusetts required

Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - PTCB preferred

Experience
Pharmacy Technician 0-1 year required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Understand HIPAA privacy rules and will use discretion when handling patient-related information.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow verbal and written instructions associated with assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to adhere to safety requirements for handling non-hazardous and hazardous medications in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Proficient with math calculations associated with assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to distinguish routine functions from those requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment.
- Ability to work with sustained attention and care on routine, repetitive tasks.
